Looks like the Casio GBD200 regular sells for as little as $110-$120 on eBay.
I’m pretty happy with my Casio GD350 watches, but that GBD200 looks like a huge improvement.
And then, of course, there are smartwatches.
I think it would be tough to find a smartwatch that’s as good of a fit for me as the GBD200, but I haven’t looked yet.
Is it the MIP display?
Nice. After being disappointed with the display on my new GW-M5610-1BJF I am thinking I would like to try a MIP display watch to see if it is better. I do like the negative display, but not when it is hard to see.
Yeah, the photo you posted looks pretty bad. I wouldn’t be happy with that either.
The display on my T-Rex is very clear as well…
Nice photo!
That’s super easy to read.
The only thing is, I am not interested in the smart watch part. I am also concerned about battery life. I have been spoiled by my Solar watches where I don’t have to worry about the battery staying charged…and it lasts for ten years or more before needing to be changed.
I hear ya. Other than daily steps tracking (bottom part of the display), I don’t use any of the smart watch features either. And I can live with only having to charge it once a month.
What I like about that smartwatch is that it looks like it has four buttons like a traditional digital watch.
It seems like most of the smartwatches that I’ve been looking at just now don’t have many buttons.
One button. That turns on the “app” screen. NOW you have a LOT of ‘buttons/functions’.
Control of apps is mostly like a smart phone.
Never thought I’d get one. Then a buddy upgraded his apple watch and gave me the old one.
VERY handy, so much that I’ll likely get another when I can’t stand the battery life anymore.
Vastly more functions than a regular watch.
Easy to use. Interfaces with Apple phone. I assume Android does the same thing.
Cons: 1 day battery life (mine is quite old-2018). But with that much computing power the battery takes a hit. New ones may last longer, but none are multi-day/week batteries.
Expensive. OTOH, people pay WAY more for a watch that is mostly jewelry/affectation.
Limited life - The battery does wear out. Replacement on that small device costs more than it is worth.
(I used to pick up decent watches at thrift stores and replace the battery. Not hard with a few special tools.)
Oh, okay.
I guess having just one button is fine, then.
(I don’t wear a hat, but that emoji looks like Indiana Jones.)
In person, it’s exactly like it looks in the photos. I’ve had mine for a couple of months and I still gawk over the MIP display. Incredibly clear and readable. I always have it on this screen:
I ordered a smartwatch!
I don’t think it’s on a special sale, so I posted about it in the wrist watch thread.
Looks like a nice watch, would it work with an emergency beacon or sat communicator?
I am amazed at how many of these Sat communicator thingies keep coming and going
They all need a functioning smart phone with a "free app " to work properly

Not bad!
They use 3 AA batteries each, so they’re great for people that don’t use Li-Ion cells.
