Another interesting Small Sun

SMALL SUN ZY-T07

Has a side switch and parallel batteries. Also the glass look like it made for diving but it's got a side switch which is wrong.

Quite odd, looking, but the T6s are now dated. I kind of like it, though, because it is “different.”

More infos when it arrives.

Ok, now we’re getting into the realm of ‘gotta have the latest or everything else before it isn’t worth crap’ jazz. And it also starts to get into the realm of the ridiculous. Not buying a decent light at a decent price just because an XML emitter of all things doesn’t put out the latest and absolute greatest output right at this moment IMO is absurd.

T6’s work plenty well in comparison against these newest emitters. And I predict they’ll still be plenty good for a long time yet too. C’mon already.

That is one crazy bird. Reminds me of that Sipik zoomie. If the driver is the same as the T29 it will suck hard.

I don’t care what the actual perfomance of this one is. I like the design. It has generous cooling fins, what makes it possible to mod it to higher performance, if it does not have it already. I have some U2 emitters on copper bases in my drawer. I have access to a lathe if it needs to improof the heat transfer to these fins. A 4 amp driver is availible and two 18650 in parallel will give enough juice for that.
That’s roughly my plan.

I quite like it, just would prefer to know certain sizes, be nice if its the same driver as the zy-t08 as that would indicate reflector size…

Now I myself don’t like that one.

I like that design, all bolted together. Is that a charging port on the bottom?

No, it's a lanyard hole.

180 deg from the switch? Not the little hole in the base plate between the battery tubes.

Either a tripod mount or a charging port.

No thanks, don’t like this one…

Here’s the picture… charging port?

I do like the looks of the front half of this light but I have a few concerns about it.

First, is the switch electronic or mechanical? I'm thinking it's electronic and if so then there is parasitic drain and no way to lock it out. This also means that a simple driver upgrade is out of the question. That 4a driver you have sitting around and want to put in it? Forget about it.

The second issue is the acrylic lens will be prone to scratches and will look pretty bad with heavy use.9

Actually those are my only concerns at this time but to me they are pretty major. Hopefully parasitic drain will be minimal and a resistor mod can bump up the power output. Being electronically switched, there is a chance it has the same driver as the T29 and the driver in that is horrible and you have to cycle through all modes to turn it off and it has no memory. Sure hope they did better with this driver.

Some of my favorite lights use older emitters. I still love the XR-Es for the throw in a small head like a penlight.

Outdated is a relative term. It still produces good light and is efficient. It’s like saying your IPhone is outdated because it is a year old. It still works and does what it was meant to do.

There will always be a new and better thing coming out.

Yes it’s a charging port, confirmed on the DX photos.

I like this light, and I want one, but something tells me it’s gonna have horrible PWM, just like they all do, and I can’t change the driver.

And where’s the charger?
