Are there any flashlights out there with aircraft strobe? I had a little tiny Inova keychain light that used to do that, but it’s not very bright. It’s nice to have something in a single AA or two AA size that has that mode.
Sunwayman D40a, but it is 4AA
What is aircraft strobe?
It’s the kind of flashing mode where it has a short duration flash once every second or two. Something you’d see on the wing of an airplane or helicopter. You can see it on some tall cell towers too.
Is it similar to the EA4 beacon mode?
The 16 mode drivers from DX have some interesting modes including a 3 hz and 1 hz strobe. Also has a police mode. These have 3 groups so these modes don’t get in the way too often. Still may favorite drivers. But they are 17mm diameter.
Edit… 3hz is actually 1/3hz (once every 3 seconds). A lot of Chinese resellers make this same error with this mode.
Yeah, according to one of the reviews, it has a powerful brief flash every 2.2 seconds. That sounds nice. So it looks like the only two suggestions so far are 4AA lights. I would love to have the Sunwayman, but honestly, they’re both out of my budget. My current 4AA option is the Starry Light at 1/3 the price but unfortunately without this mode. The reason I want this mode that sometimes when I’m talking a night walk, there’s enough light to see where I’m going but I also want traffic to see me (no sidewalks where I am). So an aircraft strobe would be nice to have to get drivers’ attention without 1)blinding them 2)burning through batteries. it’s also fun to have while camping.
That sounds like a neat idea, but I haven’t the first clue how to mod a flashlight….
Aircraft’s use a strobe much like a Beacon flash. i know Nitecore’s P25 and EA4 has a beacon mode, ( brief, quick flash every couple seconds) and there are other models that have that ability too. The 7880 1.5 volt 20-mode driver also has this mode, ( which i used to mod a few single AA lights with.
hmm I want a long delay between flashes. What has been seen cannot be unseen! xd
I found a Princeton tek aqua strobe on the beach a while ago, while not a flashlight or led its bright, just now googled it, kinda spendy but makes a nice strobe.
