I don’t really see this kind of set up much. I usually see either a single 18650 or four set up. Single or multi-emitter doesn’t matter. I realize the multi-emitter would raise the price, but even a well driven XM-L2 should get you close to 1000 lumens, right? Don’t care if it’s a flood or thrower. Just a bright, reliable 2x18650 under $30. I reason why I opt for 2 18650s is for increased runtime if it’s a single emitter driven hard. I just haven’t seen anything like that.
The Convoy lights + extensions would fit the bill. You can get a 2*18650 Convoy C8 host for like $14. L4 light for under $40 if you want an electronic switch and don’t want to assemble one.
I don’t know if you’re in the USA, but bought one and its a good light for the money. Tailcap for power on/off and a side switch for mode selection, no mode memory when the light is turned off. Proud forward clicky tail, big reflector, single XM-L. Driver is 5-mode and 6W, it draws about an amp off the two-cell stack.
The driver is impossible to resistor-mod though, I tried every single large resistor and it did nothing.
Seems pretty good. Actually, it’s kind of hard to believe the price, and I’m sorry that it’s out-of-stock now, because I wish I had bought a few more at the time :(… Also, it looks like the latest review might be by one of our BLFers…
Have any of you seen or used the Small Sun zy-t07? Granted, it’s a bit uglier than the t08 with the two individual battery compartments and the beam has shadows of the screws from the bezel…. but the estimated lumens are higher.
