Something unusual happened to me today.
I was visiting a friend who lives in an older multi-story building. When I left, I stepped out of his flat into the staircase and the lights were on. I met an older woman on her way down, and she happened to drop her keys right in front of my feet. I picked up the keys and handed them to her, and while she was still thanking me, we continued to walk down the stairs. And then the lights went out (you know these timer-controlled lights that go out after a few minutes).
As soon as it got dark, the woman practically froze. She stopped talking right in the middle of a sentence and didn't go any further, keeping a tight grip on the handrail. I spoke the magic words ("Don't worry, I've got a flashlight") and lit up the staircase with 90 lumens from my AAA EDC. I was behind her to the right, and I lit up the stairs in front of her, but she didn't move at all, so I went down to the next floor and switched the lights back on. She looked relieved, but also embarassed, so I didn't say anything and just walked down the stairs.
I wonder if she was afraid of the dark, or maybe she had a bad eyesight and was more afraid of falling down the stairs.
When I finally left the house, I thought to myself, "Man, if I was afraid of the dark, I'd carry a backpack full of flashlights everywhere."
Fear of the dark is actually very, very common, and to a degree natural. Personally I find absolute dark to be kind of peaceful, but poor visibility to be very irritating.
Now days most people react why whipping out their cell phones when power goes out. I kind of enjoy it when my friends take out a cell phone, and I whip out a 500 lumen light instead.

Compared to smartphones even 100lumens are a LOT.. and if we are honest, 100lumens are plenty for an EDC.
I'm not afraid of the dark.. I just dont like walking in pitch black because I usually hit everything with my toes.

I think these flashlight apps are more of a curse than a blessing. Because of them, people don't see the need for a flashlight, and when they get in an emergency situation, they are stuck with an LED that sucks their phone's batteries dry.
I myself kind of enjoy darkness, but what I enjoy more is having the power to drive it away 
In 2007 I was extremely impressed with the Surefire 6p, that was only 80 lumens.
The G3 light with the 200 lumen surefire drop in (xenon or incadescent? I don't remember) was absolutely astounding to me.
I remember being on a camping trip, and to me at the time, those 200 lumens felt like having a searchlight when I was up at ~3am and it was absolutely dark all around.
It was awesome :D
Now, I'm wondering how I'll get my fix after the TK75, and without going broke.
You're right, 100 lumens is a lot of light, especially indoors. My edc comes on in the 30 lumens mode, which is still more than enough for most tasks, but since I could see she had problems I instantly switched to max mode. Still wasn't enough for her...
I agree darkness is kind of unpleasant when you're in an unfamiliar place und keep bumping against everything.

I’m not scared of the dark, I actually prefer it, I just get a kick out of chasing it off with a well driven emitter :bigsmile:

I’m concerned your edc produces 100 lumen, I feel I should assemble an 18650 care package :bigsmile: incase such a situation arrises again

In fact I have a couple of P60s and other single 18650 lights, I just don't like to carry them in my pants pocket. Don't want to scare the ladies :bigsmile:

I cannot stay in a dark room that has no light at all; it really spooks me. I have to have at least one of those plug-in nightlights.
I like these as they have a sensor to turn off the light when there is sufficient external light.
But if we walk in the light
My EDC is a Sunwayman V10A (love the magnetic control ring <3) with a Nichia High CRI LED and bored for 18500 LiIon cells. Emitter gets about 1.2A so maybe 250 OTF lumens. Small, easy to operate (I use my regular clicky lights a lot less now..) and still bright enough for almost anything. Of course when we do outdoor parties I still carry something in the 800lumens range with me.. thats just more impressive. ;)
