Looking to turn a few of my collections into silver. Anyone regularly buy silver? What is the best way to buy it as close to market value as possible? I have been looking around, and all of the bars and coins quite a bit over the current silver value
I have tried pawn shops, they wont sell silver bullion. Said market value is too low.
Tried local coin shops and jewelry shops, they want more for a 10oz bar than I can get it for online.
I bought a little from silvertowne and ebay…bullion and coins. Silvertowne offers free shipping on many items. But, I haven’t bought any for several months…so not too sure how competitive they are.
I have bought from them many times in the past and their Junk silver is a great price very close to spot per ounce of silver. They deliver fast too. What I like about the junk coin silver is that just in case TSHTF people know what it’s worth in a way that other things don’t. It would be a fairly easy thing to trade with.
You can definitely order from them with full confidence, they are legit and have been around a long time. Great company.
Thanks. Probably will keep trying to get some for a steal off eBay, but think I will focus the bulk of my purchases to APMEX.
Not really looking at prepping for a SHTF situation, more retirement. But if S does HTF, silver would be easier to move than video games, dvds, collectable knives and other assorted stuff I saved up over the years.
I used to bid on silver on e-bay and get some once in awhile under spot. I also used to buy liberty nickels from APMEX around spot and go through all of them and pick out sets and sell them. I did that back when silver was cheap. I would always make enough to pay for a bunch of silver that I kept and still break even. But once silver hit $20 an ounce the silver was worth more than the nickels were so I gave it up.
Another trick I used to do was go to banks and pick up a couple hundred bucks worth of 50 cent pieces and go through them, each time I would get four or five silver ones. But the last few times I did it I was lucky if I got one.
I got hooked on silver as a kid when the Hunt brothers cornered the market and did really well for a young kid. I sold off at about the right time and bought a dirt bike. I had an uncle that got me into coin collecting when I was really young.
