I had knee and shoulder surgeries a few years ago, my job wouldn’t take me back, and my sleep hours began to creep into weird territories, now I go to sleep between 6-8 AM and get up in the afternoon, also need to dose myself with sleep meds and if I wake up too soon it’s very difficult to get back to sleep.
I’ve made attempts to correct this pattern which all fail lol, I seem to be stuck in this circadian time period, so I might also have the non 24. Now my other knee is wrecked and needs attention, when I do get back to work it will have to be a night shift situation as I don’t know how to get back to “normal”
Eerily enough, “natural” circadian rhythm is closer to 25hrs than 24, which is why lots of people get to sleep and wake up later over the weekend and feel like Hell come Monday.
I haven’t needed any in ages, but melatonin puts you out, and niacin keeps you out.
I wake up both times about 5:30- 6:00 and goto sleep about 23:30 to 00:00
I’m tired only after I wake up
Weekends I wake up at the same time and a little tired again after I wake up
I’ve noticed when I am on holiday for a week or more then I slowly get a bit more sleep and wake up later
I once did night shift , 23:00 to 07:00 and come Thursday I was ready to murder people
I got about 3 hours sleep each day
I’d say my sleep pattern was ok but feel like an extra 30 mins or hour would help me
But normally once I’m awake then I’m awake
Like this week , we are on winter holiday and I’m awake 6:30am , my wife is snoring like a army guy next to me and I’m replying to a sleep pattern thread !
You don’t necessarily have Non-24, just because your sleep patterns are inconsistent or disturbed. I have terrible insomnia problems. I have to go to bed at the same time every night and get a lot of sleep, or my body doesn’t work right (not going to detail the resulting problems, just take my word for it). That isn’t Non-24 - it’s just a messed-up central nervous system and sensitive brain.
My insomnia in the past year has been caused by medications, being excited or agitated by something that happened during the day, or by noise in the environment while I’m trying to go to sleep. It’s a struggle every night, but one thing I need to work on is never deviating from the regular time of going to bed - even while traveling and changing time zones. It is impossible to do that, really, which leads to me being sick when traveling.
I’m able to sleep the usual way I guess. I mean sometimes at like 2-3am, I have to go washroom and then I’m up for hour or so before I can go back to sleep.
I am naturally nocturnal. If I’ve had a solid night’s sleep, I can easily stay up to 4am. But of course, getting up the next day with 5 hours sleep doesn’t feel good. But basically, if the day was 28 hours long, I’d be able to swing it no problem at all. If I’m physically active during the day, I usually have no problem going to sleep around midnight. But if I’m sedentary… hard to fall asleep until 1am or later.
Huh, the non-24 thing sounds like my sleep problems! I suffered for years. Then I finally hit on a sleep pill that worked - that LUNA stuff on Amazon. I probably sound like one of those product endorsers. I just take a dose 20 minutes before I go to bed. And I can actually sleep instead of laying awake 4 hours. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JCO3ALG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
While I’m endorsing, why don’t I tell you about the random double-blind studies
…Laying in bed…. Realize I’ve been laying there over an hour and still don’t feel drowsy! WTF?!…. Wonder why the Luna isn’t working tonight…. Realize I forgot to take my Luna tonight…. Take Luna…. Fall asleep 20-30 minutes later.
For the people who think they are gradually developping insomnia: as you grow older you need less sleep. Also you are able to spread your energy much better over the day.
I’ve had severe insomnia caused by a giant burnout during my graduation. Aggravated by the bipolar kid of the neighbours who used to play his electric guitar on any given moment he was not feeling well. Untill his parents got him committed to a mental hospital.
The things I’ve learned. Medicine does not work, unless you wanna feel drugged for a whole day. Your body will take care of you. If you really really need some sleep, you will be able to sleep. That knowledge is much more re-assuring than saying to yourself: oh boy I just heard the churchbell: it is 2AM, oh boy I just heard the churchbell: it is 3AM, etc.
