Anyone ever have a Kidney Stone?

Superbowl Sunday I was in incredible pain suffering from this Kidney Stone. I had one about 14 years ago that was about three times this size. Took me 2 weeks to pass it. Luckily this one came out the same day!

Well no wonder you were snockered yesterday!

Glad to hear everything came out ok.... Foot in Mouth

Never had one myself, but my brother has and he's told me how painful they are.

I drank 5 large Hawaiian Punch and Rum cocktails 50/50 mix. I was sailing the high seas.. It didn't help the pain to be honest, it just made me not care..lol!

The service method for getting rid of those was to put a huge (16ga) IV in both arms and run fluids in as fast as they could. After about 4 liters of fluid something was gonna give one way or another.

lol! I'll try that the next time! NOT!!

Wow. I have reoccurring stones, so I know how overwhelming the pain can be. Last time, 3 shots of Dilaudid did nothing for the pain.

Usually, anything over 6mm requires surgery or lithotripsy. I had the operation on an 8mm stone, but passed a stone the size of a jellybean six months later. When I called my doctor for medication, since I was on a business trip, he said it was 'impossible' to pass one of that size.

I snapped a quick pic, and emailed it to him. I promptly received a call, instructing me where to pick up the meds.

I'll PM you the pic.

The first one I had was the size of a pepper corn. (not quite 3 times the size of this one) but it caused enough pain to make me cry. I'm a pretty tough guy when it comes to pain but trust me, I was crying for 2 freaking weeks. I had an appointment to have it blasted on Monday. Sunday night I finally passed it. The pain was instantly gone even though there was a lot of blood as it came out. I seriously wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, it's that bad....Well maybe I would.....lol!

The pain is difficult to describe to anyone who hasn't had a stone, or birthed a child.

The first time I had one, I felt like Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs, in the car after he's shot.

I kept reaching down, feeling for the gunshot wound and blood - and was incredulous that there was none, with this much pain.

I have snapped tendons, been in car wrecks, and have over 100 stitches in one arm from being catapulted through a window. Nothing ever came CLOSE to the overwhelming, white-hot pain of a small pebble being where it shouldn't.

Glenn,

I feel your pain. I had one probably about 5 yrs or so ago. Mine was small compared to that one. I think mine was like .03mm and I may be wrong. But it dropped me to my knees. Mine happened at work after lunch is when I first noticed it. It just kept getting worse. I got home and laid in bed, but that didn't work. My wife said after I got up and dropped to my knees to eliminate the pain of my lower back that you probably have a kidney stone. She was going to drive me to ER. I said no I'll be ok. I get there and sit for probably over an hour, and then they finally get me back there to do some blood work and to take a urine sample. They said I had a little blood in my urine. So they arranged for a CT scan, and said that I had a kidney stone. By then hell the worst was over. The doc ask me how I felt. I told him a lot better now. He said that means it finally passed and stopped moving. He said you'll probably piss it out the next day. He was right. I did the next morning and caught it in a strainer he gave me. It didn't hurt at all pissing it out.

I had one on thanksgiving day about 10 years ago. Memorable, to say the least. They gave me a morphine drip to ease the pain, as demerol (sp?) did nothing for it.

Passed it a few hours later, ahhhhh, relief.

I don't think anyone who hasn't had one understands just how painful they are. It's beyond description as you know. Fortunately I was able to pass this one the same day. Seriously pure hell while it lasted..

I was just looking at my first post. Who in there right mind actually measures their Kidney Stones?? I know you guys can appreciate this sort of thing but the general public would probably have me committed..lol!

I never had one and don't want to find out. I saw my dad passing a few in the 80s and that was tough just being around him.

The closest thing I can imagine is when I dislocated my shoulder in the 90s after being side-swiped and sandwiched between by a city bus and parked car in a motorcycle accident. I think I passed out for a few seconds when I pulled it back into the socket. The pain however didn't last long and I eventually rode back home.

Never been shot before either. A veteran friend of mine said being shot is like being hit by a sledge-hammer. Again...I wouldn't want to find out.

I had my 4th one about a month ago. I had the ultrasonic blasting procedure on the first two. The other two passed on their own.
I now drink a lot of water all the time. I’ve learned a bit more about how to handle it as well but it’s rough.
I have a friend who is a Dr. and she helped with some advice this time. You can take up to 12 200mg iboprufen a day which is twice what the bottle says over other the short term (several weeks) and you can take 8 Tylenol a day.
When you combine them it’s almost the same pain relief as narcotics and due to the anti-inflammatory nature works better for me.
Taking that and tons on water and sleeping when possible when the pain is there and trying to moving around walk around when it is not is the solution to helping it pass.
Reducing caffeine, colas, and certain other foods helps although the specifics depends on which type of stone you have.
Abtglenn, I’m sure you are feeling great today to not have stone inside you anymore!

S***, never experienced one before..... and hope i don't experience one.

Passed a small one. Pain bad enough to make me puke.

I did have this stool once, however...

Bryan, I'm feeling 100% better now, thanks. My Urologist told me to stop drinking caffeinated coffee 14 years ago when I got my first stone. Did I listen to him? NO! It's my one and only vise. I need my Caffeine!

I have never had one. A teacher in high school once described the pain as like trying to pass a bowling ball with fishing hooks sticking out. That stuck with me all these years.

Excellent simile.

Back in 78 I got a hum dinger of a stone. By the time I got to the hospital I was rolled up in the fetal position on the floorboard of my neighbors car. I blacked out and woke up briefly in the operating room before surgery. I spent 10 days in the hospital over that stupid kidney stone.
