Anyone Got A JETbeam II PRO and JETBeam / Niteye EC - R16

Does anyone happen to have the above 2 lights and can give any comparison on the beam / throw between the 2 lights.

I prefer the choice of modes of the R16 and theoretically it has a higher CD value …… I do like lights with a reasonable throw and wondered how the II Pro with the XP-L HI emitter compared against the EC-R16 and also if the ii Pro can take 18350 or just 16340 batteries???

If anybody has both and can shed any light (no pun intended!!! ) would be much appreciated.

Yes, I’ve got both. It’s fairly late at the moment, but shoot me a PM tomorrow and I’ll see what I can do for you.

If I may add my 2 cents, the Jet-II PRO is a far superior light in almost every way. The EC-R16 does have a larger head and therefore larger reflector, but is clumsy to carry due to no clip and the funny shape. The UI is better on the PRO, with direct access to turbo and moonlight mode, electronic lockout, timer functions, and better (imo) spacing. The EC-R16 does have internal charging, but there is a report on CPF somewhere of one causing a supposedly good battery to vent. To be fair, I have used mine with no ill effects, so it was probably just a one-off.

Once again, ill grab my lights tomorrow, PM me because I will forget.

EDIT: The Jet II Pro can not take 18350s, but it is one of the smaller 16340 lights available, it is dwarfed by 18350 lights like a shorty Convoy S2+ or a EC-11, or even the Jetbeam TC-E1

Cythras,
Cheers for that … does your EC-R16 take 18350’s I had actually ordered one and it arrived today, it’s fine with 16340’s but I bought that rather than the II Pro (at this stage) because I already have quite a few 18350’s so thought it’d save me buying more batteries. I only have one 16340 which I keep in another torch in the car.

When I tried the keeppower 18350 it’s totally indented the button but won’t work with them at all.

I’ll ping you a reminder re the beam test as well.

Alrighty, because I’m a lazy bastard, it’s been 20 hours, but this still counts as tomorrow ;).

Here are the two lights in question, compared to all my other 18350/16340 lights.

So firstly, I feel retarded. Somehow, it never occurred to me that the EC-R16 could take 18350 cells, despite the fact that I have lego’ed the head between it and the EC-R26 (the 18650 Variant) several times.

So Yes, 18350 cells do work in the EC-R16, however, due to the physical reverse polarity protection on that series of lights, only button tops will function.

Don’t mind the hair.

The Jet II Pro is a different story though.

Yeah… not so much. You’re stuck with 16340s on this one.

Here are some shitty beamshots of the two lights. Both are running on fully charged Fenix 700 mAh 16340s.

The Jet II Pro is on the left RIGHT. Obviously, it has a smaller and slightly brighter hotspot, and doesn’t get the flower petal effect the EC-R16 has from the XP-Ls funny dome combined with a smooth reflector. The transition from spot to spill is slightly smoother in the PRO due to the OP reflector as well.

The biggest difference in light output to me however, is actually the lack of a firefly mode.

This is a comparison of the lowest output modes on both lights, with the PRO on the left once again.
Please don’t mind the green lighting and shadows, my riced up PC was on the other side of the room.

Hope this was helpful

EDIT: Apparently imgur posts don’t actually show up as pictures… Should work if you click on them though. Sorry, too lazy to find another image host xD

Brilliant … thanks for that !!! ….It’s hard to tell with the hotspots … looks like the one on the left is larger ?

Did you actually try and get the EC-R16 to work with the 18350’s … mine it just destroyed / squashed the battery’s button in but wouldn’t actually work … not sure if they’re just fussy about a mm or two difference in length from one 18350 to another

My ec-r16 works perfect with a protected 18350 Keepower, very happy with this niteye, great quality.

Yeah, larger and less intense hotspot from the EC-R16. It runs just fine on my Nitecore 18350 IMRs, though useless as they have the same capacity as my 16340s.

Are you sure you quoted them as the right way round … I see the one on the left as having a larger but not so “intense” hot spot exactly as you say in your more recent post but earlier you said that was the II Pro?
The one on the left them seems to have almost a 2nd hotspot around the smaller one with a warmer tint and the one on the right is smaller and more intense without the almost 2nd hotspot ?

It’s probably me getting my wires totally crossed though … sorry if I’m being a dumb a……

Naw, I’m just slightly retarded. Jet II PRO is on the right, you can actually see the light reflecting off the silver button in the pic. My bad. (This is why I usually let other people do the useful stuff like this)

I’m sooooooo glad you came back and said that … your 1st post really threw me and when someone’s taken the time … effort … and trouble to do something like that you don’t like to seem rude by questioning it but has now put my mind at rest

I may actually send the one I have back and ask them to swap it as it’s too similar to other torches I have in terms of light pattern and there’s no benefit in having it.

Thanks again for your help !!!

No problem lol. Not much effort put into it, the images don’t even load properly, sorry for the confusion as well. I do really like the Jet-II PRO, I personally think it is my favourite light in my collection. Also, These exist. :disappointed:

Must admit I saw those as well … think I’d try the standard initially and if I really liked it keep the standard as a drop it anywhere … lend to anyone workhorse …… and whilst I’d love one, I fear it’d just be a pocket queen that never came out and you can buy a few other good torches for the same cost.

There are just so many good lights around nowadays it does make it hard to chose between them … I think I’m also getting to the stage where I think I have one for every possible usage / scenario I could ever think of!!!

It’s ok, I’m at the stage when I have half a dozen for every possible usage…
