that sounds bad - let’s hope everyone made it out alive and/or that the missing people are “only” injured.
Yes,,,,, Xtar and numerous other flashlight companies.
Convoy (Simon) is “Shenzhen Great Wall Technology …”
I don’t know how big Shenzen is, so I can’t guess whether this — five acre — slide is a big deal for the city, or just a newsworthy blip in one small neighborhood (apparently a big pile of dirt that had been accumulated from previous construction suddenly collapsed).
For reference, if you’re piling up dirt, you can make a very tall pile — for a while — that exceeds the angle of repose.
But for any material, there’s a critical angle beyond which a pile of it will collapse eventually
That’s assuming Earth’s gravity, no earthquake, and no change in how wet the material is.
Fortunate that this collapse appears to have been slow enough for people to get out of the buildings — mostly.
Watch for discussion to show up eventually at The Landslide Blog - AGU Blogosphere
Much more there for those learning how these things happen
Neal told me he planned to visit Simon this week…
i asked Neal Minutes ago if someone we know is affected.
The scale of it all baffles me.
What a huge undertaking must it be where they needed all that material for.
Let’s hope for the best to all involved.

I
The initial casualty estimates from the Japanese 2011 Tsunami were low. I would expect the same here.
Was anyone living there? Not sure that they have the luxury of an office , China is so full of people
You saw that “Two workers’ dormitories are among the affected buildings….” in the original story?
The pictures show most of the windows and balconies had bars over them. Scary buildings to be in.
More on the cause:
“110-yard-high” has to be a translation of a “100-meter” hill.
Lot of dirt.
Report on BBC news with video clip - China landslide: Area searched after buildings collapse - BBC News
Since Simon has a family I would guess he wouldn’t be in a “workers’ dormitories”. Also Shenzhen has a ton of people. So the odds are in our favor that Simon and his family are ok.
Area 2,050 km2 (790 sq mi)
Population 10 million
Brinyte is in Shenzen.
Which location in Shenzen?
光明山体滑坡
You can google the above and look at the images or the following Shenzen Evening News page.

Eagle Eye’s aliexpress page says Shenzen.
Brinyte is not effected, I’ve been exchanging emails about an order.
I just received a message from Simon
It was short and only about a final tweak I asked him to do on the C8.
He said the change could be made so it seems all is OK for him and his company, though I replied with the questions if it is.
Far bigger than first reported:
The mudslide, covering an area of more than 380,000 square metres (94 acres), was 10 metres (33 feet) deep in parts, Shenzhen Vice Mayor Liu Qingsheng told reporters ….
… Fourteen factories, 13 low-rise buildings and three dormitories were among the buildings flattened…. the government revised the number of missing to 85 from 91…

Seems like such a needless tragedy, I wish the best for all involved.
