Anyone with working Klarus XT30R? Need help fixing one!

I am trying to fix one and need to compare some measurements.

I have one that is exhibiting strange behavior: front e-switch works as intended, everything that can be
done with front e-switch, according to user manual, is working but, tail switch (with e-switch mode button)
is not working at all ! and I also have two wired remote controls TRS1 that are not working either, one of them
is brand new and 100% good.
Btw, this one is using proprietary 8,4 battery pack, 2 x 18650 stacked but with additional contact surface on each end…

I know this is an old thread, sorry, but I wanted to answer it and then warn anyone else about the xt30r ! I had this problem and replaced the tailcap itself and it was fixed.

This torch was my best torch I’d had……until I discovered the fact that once the battery pack gave up, Klarus has discontinued it, I could not get replacement batteries anywhere, literally anywhere ! Klarus should be ashamed at putting out a seriously expensive torch that is now useless! I am interested to know more about your battery pack, though, Sirius9, it sounds like you may have a workaround ?

Or has anyone else any experience of a fix for a Klarus xt30r when the battery pack dies ?!

Hi ttfoxo,

sorry to dissapoint, it was a long time ago when I had this light and don’t really remember how was the battery pack made but I am sure it can be disassembled.
It should have some retention ring(s) on one side of the battery pack, if you can post photos of the top and bottom side of the battery pack I might be able to provide more help.

Mid this year I fully disassembled Olight Marauder 2 so if that can be taken apart then Klarus can be also.

How ever, from my experience in fixing light I can tell you that Klaus has the most no-fix cases. Mostly electronics dies, opposite to Olight where mostly LED-s die.

You can attach photos to your posts but you have to use image host like Postimage or some other free image host.

ok, so I’ve managed to undo the silver collar and the battery comes out in one unit, I now need to buy another 18650 to test it, but what would I use to make additional contact surface like you mentioned?

You need to teardown original battery pack and replace 2 18650 cells.
This one has + and - on boths sides so you cant just put 2 cells up in the tube.
Some spot welding and heatshring tubing for 18650 cells as well.
Not a hard job thou.

I dont remember how battery looks like from both ends but from your photo of top part I would say that there are 2 poles on it (the top).

I’m not quite sure what you mean, but the cap end seems to have a black o ring and the head end has a red one, I was assuming the black was -ve and red was +ve, but there’s not a button top like I was expecting.

You will have to strip that battery pack and replace cells.
Rip off the blue heat shrink wrapping, you can buy this from ebay or aliexpress for 1-2$.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I suspect more and more Klarus XT30R lithium batteries will be giving up the ghost…

Mine’s finally dead.

@ttfoxo How did you release the collar? I thought the two indents have something to do with in, like using the outside of thin pliers to turn in, but no luck. Care to share?

Regarding the question in the OP I can’t offer a solution.

What I can offer is a warning, to those who have missed reading this thread.
What we see here is the risk of using a proprietary battery, and no replacement when you need one.
Thus making the light practically useless. Unless you are an experienced modder.

It’s like driving a really nice car that has a unique set of wheels/tyres … and no spare in the boot.
And by the time you need a new set of tyres you find out they don’t make them like that no more.

I think I used a pair of circlip pliers, which were perfect for the job, but I still haven’t got round to making a new battery pack yet. I’d never buy another Klarus again because of this.

I managed to get the silver ring loose with circlip pliers, but I still can’t get the battery out.

I’ve now gone from the other end, and ended up pulling a copper ring off the battery, so I think it’s a gonner.

Also had a bad experience with my Klarus rep. My XT30R is 4 years old, mint condition, and due to planned obsolescence - completely useless. The rep argues I got a good run out of it, and now is trying to sell me on the XT12GT Pro.

He got upset when I said how must I trust Klarus after being burned with the BP2/XT30R, and he said it’s not his fault. Truly unprofessional.
