Just curious as I don’t own anything like this. Would consider any emitter type.
I don’t think there are any commercially available 3x P60’s available, I hope I’m wrong though
There are.. or there were:
some guys on CPF build custom quad dropins. Maybe also triple. Better build it yourself. ;)
Yeah I was reading about some on CPF that made me wonder. Although the prices of some of them over there are, shall we say way above what I’d consider paying.
Building myself is an option, just wondered if there was something for reasonable money already out there.
Nope, doesnt seem so. Although its rather easy to build them.
Those builds are NOT easy to duplicate.
Not easy, but rather easy compared to other stuff. If you can do a Matchs 15min Maglite mod, you will also be able to do one of these.
Stuff needed:
-copper end cap
-empty pill
-led star
-optic
-wires
-driver
-solder
-soldering iron
-blowtorch
-patience
-files
-drill
-patience
-some skill
:)
great topic.
me wants triple XP-G*2*!!!
s.: @NightCrawl: I think you just have missed to mention “patience” at least four more times.
Patience goes a long way. Skill does, too.
I wish they sold #10 & #13 at HomeDepot or Illumination supply. You will run out quickly.
#6 and #14 are still a mystery to me although im getting much better at 12x and 16x stack thanks to NightCrawl
I had to count two times.. :D
As someone who is into triples and quads, I can tell you there are no budget versions. Your best buy option is Oveready- fantastic quailty and modes, but yes, a couple of dollars though. Heaps of floody light out of these suckers J)
The copper pill that houses the emitters and drivers typically soak up the majority of the build cost, since they are custom made in small batches most of the time.
If you’re comfortable with soldering small parts, it’s really not that hard to build one.
Copper P60 Triple Blanks - $50
Parts from Illumination Supply:
Triple Nichia 219 20mm Star - $19
Now I’m simplifying the process here and I didn’t include other items like wires and thermal paste (or more AMC7135 chips for stacking if you want to drive the emitters harder), but for approximately $80, you can get ’er done yerself!
If your going to make your own triples or quads you should make your own pill. Buying a $60 pill defeats the purpose as you can buy the finished product for $160 i believe. Your costs should be no more than $30 -$35.00 , for a 3up or 4up. The expensive part is the slave labor wages you pay yourself. Last time i checked i was getting a Corona every 2 -3 hours..
btw- That pill is absolutley gorgeous. i would buy 1 just to look
at it. Whats the latest conversion rate for AUD-USD? Think it was
close to par??
Its is fun. If this type of thing is in fact what you call fun.
Triple xml in a p60 drop-in doesn’t seem like a good idea. Those things already overheat with 1 xml.
If your not up to making your pill then you can buy this one and remove the LED.
Driver is 8xNJG and is ready for your modified 3up LED. $16.00 covers your pill and driver
and the XM-l LED for another project. I do recommend add a few 7135 IC’s per NightCrawl
Although you will get good performance from 8x NJG driver…

Hold on a sec…I believe we’re talking about P60 modules here. I don’t think that pill will fit into a P60 host.
Yeah, as much as those triple blanks look lovely I’m not sure I’d want to spend $50 on one US or Aus dollars. Not that they aren’t worth it but I just can’t justify it. A triple p60 would just be for fun and because you can. But when an Ultrafire XM-L T6 only costs $16 fully complete and working I can’t justify 10x the cost for 2 extra emitters and a different driver.
Great catch there. This pill has a lip that will require some work to remove then fits perfect in a Surefire. I haven’t tried with a Solar-force which is a slightly larger pill. ( i have this exact pill…Im getting off my lazy Ar*e to measure it inside a Solarforce host) OK. This pill is a very close fit and can be easily modified with hand tools to fit a Solarforce. I would use copper tape to build up the base for contact and heat-sinking. One thing i notice is this C8 pill is made with better copper than the P60 pills and heavier. The P60 pill looks like brass when compared to the C8 and less than 2mm difference
Really not that hard, I completed two before ever even doing a driver or emitter swap. Done! - Started making my first P60
I just couldn’t see paying $150+ for a drop-in.
I still need to work on adding 7135 chips to my driver, I cooked the first two I tried so I’m currently using KD drivers @ 3042ma, underdriven a bit but still bright. I’ve got more drivers and 7135s on order but Illumination Supply is out of stock at the moment.
I’m going to make a couple more when XP-G2 3-up stars become available.

Just wanted tgo update this thread - I recently purchased a LED 3Up and Driver from LuxRc. The Driver and LED come as one complete PCB. You can choose your LEDs, modes, and output during the purchase , takes 2 weeks for delivery. Serge at LuxRc is a pretty smart fellow and really working on the cusp of high output multi led lights. I haven't had the opportunity yet to connect the 2 wires on the LED Engine due to some mishaps outside of anyone's control but this all ecompased LED Driver solution makes for a rather easy DIY if your looking for a triple build. The total for a 1400 lumens XPG R5 LED Driver Engine - Single Mode was just under $40.00. note - The L33 LED Engine will run on 1S configuration and bright but for full output 2S will open up to 1400 spec lumens.... I highly recommend trying out this little masterpiece even if you intend to build your own 3up drop-in from scratch..
