Any recommendations on a driver replacement for MF01? I love the high Cri of the Nichia and flood. Use it a lot at work for checking metallic paint application. I’m probably going to get a MF01s but want to revive this one also. Running 30Q batteries. Love my Zebralight UI the best.
Thanks
Lexel makes a driver for the MF01, but it requires modification to the battery carriers and MCPCB. Unsure if he makes a 1:1 replacement.
Not long after i bought the MF01 back then, i shipped the head to Lexel in Germany who rewired the led board (there was two variants IIRC), added GITD tape under the optic and replaced the driver with a ramping UI. Max output went ballistic too. Great work. Might not be practical from the US though.
My output is ~8800lm I think I should try and get XPL HI 4500k. To hell with CRI on this thing.
Mine was about the same with Nichias. After the Lexel mod it went up to about 13K… Quite a blast of NW high CRI… and HEAT! The XPLs would probably be more efficient. And who cares about color rendition when your blinded?
Was that with the board as in the imgur albums? Hhhhmmm. I’ll have to go back over it at some stage.
No idea - i haven’t looked. I just sent the head to be “fixed”.
All good! I should spend some more time on it and neaten some things up, then re-check.
But an XPL HI cannon would be fun
A stock driver is $26. Maybe I should just go that route when I get a MF01s? Any other comparable lights to consider? High CRI, Fairly floody, High output.
The stock driver was somewhat unfinished or outdated… with a limited output (unless they updated it?), but that is certainly the easiest way to go. You may want to check which led board version you have. The very first one had a different setup with more or less wires… Not sure exactly.
That said, the MF01S is a much more mature version with a nice design, more output, both beautiful and useful aux leds and Anduril… Why did they not include USB charging? It would have been perfect IMO.
The Firefly ROT66 Gen II and Emisar D18 come to mind. Both noticeably compact 3x18650 design. Probably same or more output as the stock Nichia MF01.
