I have some issues about what to do with this light. I will explain here, with photos and text.
The build thread is here. It has been an experience making this light.
It is a 2AA Maglite that has been modded so that it can be a straight light or a 90 degree light, by twisting the body. It has a copper pill, with a cool white XM-L2 led on a copper star. It runs DD, only two modes, ON/OFF. Twist the head down tight, to turn it on, twist up to turn off. It takes a single 14500 Li-ion cell.
I was going to sell it, but I don't know what price to put on it. Then I was going to give it away, but I just can't afford to do that.... So, I thought an auction, with full disclosure, might be a way. This way, whatever you pay for is your own fault, not mine.
The good: It is a one off unique light. It would be great as a shelf queen and something to show off.
The bad:
- The pivot is not tight. It spins easily. It will stay in place, but it takes hardly any force to spin it from 90 to straight. If it were a daily user, it would get very loose very fast. I guarantee it. That is the weakest part of this build. It needs to be a shelf queen.
- There are no positive stops, so you could just spin it right around, over and over, but that will break the wires, so whatever direction you turn it to 90, you want to go back the other way, so you don't twist up the wire and break it.
- There are two marks on the body, (photos below), they are very visible.
- The fit and finish between copper to body is not good. (also seen in the photos). It's just one of those things. I didn't get it perfect and it's just about not acceptable to me. I know others may feel it's fine, but I'm very picky.
