Looks like we’re in the crosshairs once again for a Hurricane—- I think this time it will Bullseye us directly —-Maybe I’ll get lucky (I doubt it)
Daughter’s house — Violet, La
My camp—Mandeville, La
Our house West Baton Rouge
And the rest of the family all mixed amongst those areas — The crazy part is my daughter bought that house last Oct.— 4 days after she moved in a Hurricane passed right over her new her new house—luckily she only lost one shutter
Oh well over here getting stuff together —- just a glimpse of what goes on — We’ll survive —We always do
Thanks — Unfortunately that’s why I posted a pic of that Beautiful Blue Pool — even with the best outcome it will be full of leaves , sticks and fingers crossed small branches
Lived on the TX gulf coast for many years and have made it through a couple of hurricanes. Never any fun but they are survivable, seems like you know what to do and have experienced it before.
Not really — that’s just a lower end 1500 watt inverter —the Lifepo cells are the expensive part —that’s 2 separate 12v batteries — one 265AH and 380AH —- I started fooling around with that stuff as a pass time —- you know flashlights, batteries , inverter , Solar run house —the natural progression right
Any way I have that little setup to use while the storm is going on to run a few things —no fun trying to get a generator going in 100+ mph winds
You can see in one of the outside pics—I was doing a trial to see if the inverter would run a small window unit—Success
FYI —- In the last year I bought a new generator (9500 watt) that runs on gasoline and propane —Guys if you have the choice go propane —It makes the whole process so simple —like hooking up your gas grill — I have accumulated 12/ 5 gal tanks and have them full on shelves in my shed (propane last 20+ yrs) Just this one thing has made preparing for this storm so much easier
Yeah the propane generators finally getting into a decent price point is very desirable. Hardly ever have to change oil as it burns so clean and not have to worry of the ethanol gas going rancid.
Cool man, keep us updated and hopefully she blows thru faster than a cheerleader.
Parents and most of my family are hunkering down on the Westbank and hoping for a more eastern shift but we will see what happens(fingers crossed). Good luck and stay safe bud!
Propane with the gen set is great. You can even keep a large tank for years outside. I had a 7000w generator in Virginia. Power was out 13 days from Hurricane Isabel. I went through 160 gallons of gasoline. Stupid thing is, we had a 420lb propane tank sitting there we used for our gas range, and never thought to hook it up to the generator.
For those who don’t know, a 420lb (120gallon) propane tank is 4ft tall and 3ft in diameter
I was gonna get a big tank , but to get it filled was gonna be a hassle — we have natural gas in the house — So I guess that’s next — We don’t loose power that often or we would get one of those Big Dudes — I guess when I get to old to have all this fun I’ll have to
A crazy story — Last year we had that once is a lifetime Artic Blast in La. — All of a sudden the house got very cold —Our gas Meter has frozen solid shutting off the gas to the house —luckily a friend of my wife’s husband works for the gas company —he had someone come out that night and change the meter
That cost me 2 good Flashlights
The farther east it goes the better it would probably be for Baton Rouge and NO though. You always want to be on the west side of the storm, you’ll still get the wind but it will be pushing the water out instead of pushing it in. I’d take wind over storm surge any day.
Good luck chops728, I was born & raised in Orchard, LA. I lived there into my mid 20’s, so I feel your pain concerning the storm. There is always a big question mark until they are over, the sun rises, and the damage surveyed.
Looks as though you are prepared.
