Hi
In need of a flashlight and the past few weeks have been spent researching them, have a pretty good idea about what I would like, however aliexpress looks a bit baron right now, must be because of Chinese new year?
High CRI is important, I’m looking at small GT FC40 based lights from convoy.
Right now there is only the S11 with 4500k GT FC40 which would satisfy my needs, but if I’m being really picky I would prefer a 21700 version with 3500k.
Think something like that might be coming in the new year or I should justgrab the S11?
Also on a side note, are there are TIR lens available for convoy S11 or S21?
Wurkkos FC11 with LH351D here is a really nice deal, but GT FC40 seems a little better looking from pics?
The official Convoy store is closed for CNY. I would just wait for that to reopen and get what you want. Not sure if there is a 12v driver for S21 though, but I believe there are some other 2170 models with a larger head that will support. Or maybe consider B35AM if you want S21, but last I saw Simon only had that in 4500k.
Convoy has multiple models that support GT-FC40, not just S11. M21B comes to mind as a 21700 option. Once the store opens back up after Chinese new year there will be four CCT options including a 3000-3500K that should suit you well.
To further complicate things they also have triple 219b options. Including I think a 21700 TIR. Not 100% sure on the details though as it got released then pulled to fix something while Simon waited for a new part.
The M21b is not big like the M21c and beyond so the size is good, with the GT FC40 it has an ideal looking beam in videos, S11 OTOH looks like it might lack throw slightly in some circumstances, might differ IRL but basing the choice on videos seems like the best option.
I was wondering what is modding like for these lights?
Like I would love to be able to swap out the GT FC40 for a throwy high efficiency LED if needed, or add a TIR lens to increase flood further. If modding is possible the choice of flash light is not as decisive
Depending on your ergo preferences and budget, consider a quad emitter like the Noctigon D4S v2. The Ledil Angie S is a sweetheart of an optic, and Hank has the 219b in 3500k. Open source firmware is a big plus going this route along with the option for floodier optics, and even dual channel with different emitters.
Staying with 3v 3535 emitters give a ton of options. The GTFC40 is great, but 7070 and 12v layout makes mods not worth it since driver, mcpcb, and even reflector changes may be needed for optimal results.
