Yes, step backwards;)
Btw, thats very normal with throwers, you wont notice that outside.
A thrower is not meant to be used indoors or for close up work, you need another light for that with more flood.
Most large diameter smooth reflectors will do this to some degree. It doesn’t do that farther down range correct?
Correct. Of course, it depends on the reflector and emitter where the doughnut ends and the lightsaber begins, but the vast majority of throwers will have no doughnut once you go outside. My Noctigon k1 W1 doughnut ends at about 3-4 feet.
Works as intended.
Perfectly focused.

Yeh, every single good thrower does this.
Your reflector isn’t a cup, but a ring. What hits that ring gets flung forward.
What light and led are you showing us ?
.
I had that problem once with a xhp 70.2 led. After Dedoming, it disappeared.
.
when you see that, it means reflector is not a match for the led. it is not limited to throwers, i had d25 do the same, it had tiny op reflectors, and it was seen at any distance, i replaced fake xml2 for real xpg2 and beam became smooth and uniform.
and yes some smooth reflectors do that too, but very very close.
As gross as it seems to be, but if all is well it has to look that way. At a short distance.
We are not living in a perfect world. In a perfect world an emitter would be a single point.
In the real world an emitter has a surface. And people are working on ways to compensate for that.
And what you showed is the best they could do. You should be happy. It’s “invisible” in real life.
What did you call me?
LOL, I love it. I can’t wait to use my new euphemism: “Shut up, beam wipe.”
Back on topic, I just fired up an old 3D MagLite the other day, and the beam was so shockingly ugly, I’m tempted to get rid of it. The spirograph patterns when zooming used to be so normal and acceptable, and now we can worry about a beam hole (heh, he said beam hole) at close range that’s an otherwise perfect-looking beam. We have cool toys these days.
Thanks all; just got it; will post more pics later.

This one; got it for around $20 with a code on here.
Neat little lite with some interesting features.

You can either use a light with a smaller reflector or use an LED with a bigger die.
The flashlight does this because it is collimated properly, this is how you get the maximum throw.
You’re kind of defeating the purpose of a large reflector thrower light by using it that close.
