Hi BLF!

This can be interesting for everybody, who was searching for beam shots of new Convoy S2+ SST20 with SMO reflector vs older XM-L2 with OP reflector comparison (+TIR 25° and 30° lenses).

Generally, it is wider than Convoy C8+ XP-L Hi, but I will replace SMO reflector with TIR 25 lenses anyway (better for EDC usage).

Also, if you plan to use 100% mode all time 6 of 7135 (2.1A) is too much. It starts to be warmer than the comfortable temperature for the hand in 1-2 minutes. I think optimal is 4*7135=1.4A

Also the Convoy S2+ body (host) color of 2019 year looks much better; it is darker, deeper and feels “metallic”, than older from 2014. The version from 2014 was bluer and lighter!

Is the TIR lens from Convoy a straight drop in?

I ordered the 8*7135 version but easy enough to remove a few chips spring side. I wonder if 5*7135 would be okay.

Yes, it is a straight drop in. Although, I would remove the white casing of the TIR optic before installation. I have had a few times where the white casing fit too snug within the flashlight housing and I ended up spinning the led MCPCB and shorting some wires while installing the pill. Never had that problem with the white TIR casing removed.

Also, I prefer to leave in the lens and o-ring for waterproofing. Just replace the reflector with the TIR.

If you keep the O-ring in the front, you don’t need that glass lens for water proofing.

Yeah, I’ve done that before too, but haven’t seen any difference in beam. My weak logic was that the glass would be a bit more durable and waterproof. I’m sure it’s the same either way.

What is the white casing you speak of? Any pictures to help me understand?

OlegOlegOleg where did you get he lens from? From Simon’s store [1] or elsewhere?

Some reviews for those on Simon’s store say the quality is so-so.

Also, do you know if they will fit LH351D version of the S2+?

An update - got the lens from Simon as per my previous link.
25 deg looks very good - the throw is similar to SMO (well, may be just a tiny-tiny bit less), but the diffused hot spot is way nicer indoors and in close ranges. Also it produce a nice “ambient” spill at very wide angles.

Note, that the lens are 1 mil less in diameter than the tube, hence they will not necessary be centred. Since my lens didn’t come with any white holder, I improvised by cutting a stripe of 200gsm paper about 4mm wide, folding as a ring and putting it just behind the glass - it helped the TIR to center.
