Gifts to who? If it’s to someone not already setup with cylindrical liion cells I think your best bet would be NiMH. These things arnt toys, they’re a serious safety concern.

I like these — they are some of the best for high output and slightly shorter (not protected) —I find protected cells in a Tool 2.0 are too long and mess the tail spring up—-If you are giving these lights as gifts to people who know nothing about Li on safety — I would just buy a 4 pack of Eneloops with 2 NiMh chargers —-FOR SAFETY

I’ve ordered some Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 with 14500 from Lumintop’s AliExpress store:

Previously, they 14500 battery that comes is labeled 750mAh and is a protected 14500.
The most recent order I got now comes with 650mAh label, and is also a protected 14500, and with built-in micro-USB charging (can directly charge the 14500 battery using micro-USB). Also believe this is more “high-drain” than the previous “750mAh” protected 14500 (but can’t be entirely sure).

If you can ask Lumintop how to source their 14500 with built-in micro-USB, maybe that’s also another option, so your gift recipient don’t need to use a standalone charger, just a micro-USB cable).

*Lumintop’s AliExpress store does not indicate that the 14500 they are now bundling have reduced capacity nor they have micro-USB charging 14500.
(another undocumented change: previous Tool AA 2.0 comes with XPL-HD [or Nichia if specify the Nichia version], but it seems they silently replaced the XPL-HD to XP-L2 LED too in their new Tool AA 2.0)

You should ask the administrators to merge your two threads with the same basic question. You don’t want to give lithium-ion rechargeable cells to people who aren’t equipped to deal with them safely and don’t know about how to recharge and use them safely. If you don’t know if they’re so equipped, give them rechargeable Eneloop or Fujitsu NiMH cells with the light.

I received my Tool 2.0 today and tried one of my Trustfire TF 14500 900mAh protected cells in it and it fits perfectly. Are the newer protected cells a little longer than these I bought a year or two ago?
