I was looking into the astrolux s41 and astrolux s1 to use as an edc and self defense flashlight. I just want to know wich one you guys prefer. Or maybe there is another flashlight that you prefer.
what im looking for:
It has to be maximum around 30 bucks, preferably cheaper!
I mainly want to use the flashlight for self defence and i think the strobe effect is important, so i would like to get fast to the strobe effect with minimum amount of clicks.
the maximum size I want is the size of the s1. so i can easily always have it with me. but how smaller the better.
I want it to be comfortable to use, i heard the s41 can get hotter because of the copper, how much of a problem is that?
I also know that the astrolux s1 is also in the blf version, wich one is better?
Also, if you have any reccomendations about the battery, please, i would like to get the best out of it!
I know they are already quite old and maybe there is a better alternative or something.
Sorry if i go all over the place, english is not my native language!
I really think this is a kinda cool community and scene,
so thanks in advance <3
Yes the emisar is really one of the most talked lights on this forum haha its crazy but the astrolux for like half the price of the emisar isnt too bad either if u dont wanna spend 40$ on emisar get the astrolux s41 then its plenty bright too and quad emitters.
Strobe isn;t really a great defense, IMHO, neither is a ‘blinding’ steady beam.
What if it is day time? What if the light (which makes itself a target) is knocked out of your hand? What if assailant is on some crazy strength drug?
The Astrolux S1 / BLF A6 can be put in strobe mode + memory mode, then turned off
The next activation will be strobe mode.
Would be a pain to use it as an every day carry though, you would have to constantly be taking it in and out of ‘come on in strobe mode’ mode
It won;t get hot in strobe mode, only in steady mode 6 or 7.
Any battery will be fine, but if it doesn;t put out a lot of current, mode 5 6 or 7 might be pretty much the same.
The only “self-defense” flashlight is a 4+ cell Maglite. If you can’t render someone unconscious by striking them with the light, it has ZERO self-defense utility.
“Where’d you get that little flashlight?”
“Took it from some punk who flashed it in my face”
I think it might be a quite good self defense, i live in holland where first of all people dont have guns and people dont use crazy meth or other crazy drugs, second a friend of mine talked me into this flashlight world and did allot of test with me, i cant see shit when shining in my eyes. I think its can be a great way to get yourself out of some trouble, im not talking about using it as a weapon or whatever. but i get your point offcourse
Thanks for all the reccomendations.
So should i go for the s1 or s41?
can i memory the strobe on the s41?
wich one is more comfortable for holding/getting hot?
wich one is stronger?
and last what is the difference between s1 and blf A6?
s1 is longer, it will always protrude from your hand.
probably stronger than s41 [s41 has a complicated head]
s1 and a6 are the same
one may come with 2 battery tubes, not sure, s1 does not
—Self defense? Flashlight? 1911 .45 with a rail light of your choice :sunglasses: …. Or at minimum a 3D Maglight so you can knock a bloody hole in their head…. Oh wait, sorry… yeah “self defense flashlight” ok… Surefire 6p with a Rotorhead64 dropin. just kiddding… any aftermarket LED dropin is pretty good just not as good mine. Its hard to beat a 6P for EDC self defense… shame, shame :person_facepalming: i know…… go easy on me please
Oh, in that case, you should just get a gun. Then, you can mug people for their flashlights, and don’t have to worry about them defending themselves. That works for anything you need right away but forgot to bring with you.
If I buy something to defend my life with, I’m not going to cheap out. Having said that, my opinion is lights are only useful SD items when used with a gun.
