I am looking for a light with no flood. What would work best?
Zoomie with small led, something like XP-E or XR-E I think. You have less lumens than modern leds, but because of their small die size you should get the smallest hotspot.
Yeah, he’s wanting a 1 degree spot. That’s pretty tight. I’m not sure even a zoomie, focusing the die, will achieve that. I guess he could measure it, and see.
A laser certainly would. Maybe a slightly defocused laser? Yeah, probably not what he wants, but it’s probably the best chance of affordably getting such a tight spot.
Edit: I just tried a AA zoomie, and the spot was already 2 feet at less than half the distance. So, he’ll need something bigger.
I forgot that if you don’t want spill you can also use a regular reflector, and add some kind of cylinder to block the spill. Tiablo had this some years ago called “anti spill”: Kit-Tronics
Dereelight XSvn from Sky Lumen
And, IF the tiny bit of stray light is still a problem, then get a hood/spill kit like hIKARInoob recommended.
What light is that? Ah I see a Dereelight XSvn.
An aspheric flashlight.
However it will be a square, not a circle, because almost all LEDs are square.
As long as it is small at 100 ft, no problem.
Ok well how much do you want to spend? And how big can the light be?
The smaller and brighter the spot is, the more you will have to pay.
What about a " MTE-H8-1S " ?... No flood at all , just Google a little to see it !!!... I have one , is taking a 26650 (or a 18650 with a sleeve) , and the output is a PERFECT circle , due to the advanced lens technologies used . Can be modded with the original driver (resistor) or an other driver more powerful , and new generation of Leds (XHP). Amazing light !...
I was hoping < $100 but if the right one is little more?
I think this one is about the best you can get for the price:
https://skylumen.com/collections/v54-lights/products/one-off-1504vn-budget-26650-zoomie
The size doesn’t matter.
Or a hexagon, with those nice nice Nichias.
What about those big honkin’ zoomies with names like “Eye of Ra” and whatnot? Forgot the brand, but someone was discussing them here a while back.
Ah, yes. Lance of Ra by Silent Thunder Ordnance. Super light, but also super price at $625 . The Dereelight XSvn is a bit easier on the wallet at $155.
I already checked all the websites of modders and custom aspherics including STO.
Unfortunately STO no longer has their more affordable aspheric throwers, and OSTS and OMGlumens also don’t have any in stock, so the VN lights are the only option left in that price range.
defocused lasers make a VERY weird light = =sparkly, cloudy, monochromatic, very hard to actually use for anything serious
