Hi guys, looking to buy some decent lux meter/light meter, on cheap.
What are some decent ones, that you guys have, so it will be comparable when i get mine, for example i want to measure BTU Shocker with it.
I prefer Fast Tech as a order site.

Well this isn’t fast tech but it’s the one that was suggested by a few people.
Not that I have broken down and ordered it yet though. So I have no idea if it’s as good as they say.
Thanks, they dont ship to my country sadly, any other alternative?
Is this product really better then other cheap ones?
Just found this LX1010BS, is this better unit?
That’s the one I have, and have been using on that other thread about the BTU Shocker :)…
Thanks.
@ Ohaya, how do you like it?
Since i’m Fast Tech fan, is this worse https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10003840/1274500-hs1010-illuminance-brightness-light-meter
The the one 18sixfifty linked? because the page he linked does not offer shipping to where i live.
So bumping this up, since i still dont have a meter (was away from forums some long time)
Anything changed? any better units on sale? now i don’t prefer FT, please recommend the best option around 20$, and share you findings, are this cheap meters at least 95% accurate? thanks.
I like the HS1010A, from Ebay:

Yes, but after one year its still the best pick? it was already recommended in this thread.
I have not seen any better offerings at this price level, just the same basic meter in different housings for more. There is really nothing between this and the MasTech ‘professional’ meters costing several times as much.
If you have a need for extensive logging on a budget, a Sharp BS-120 sensor like UPz uses in his sphere would be a good choice, provided you have a logging multimeter.

Thanks alot Chloe, highly appreciated!
Hi guys, me again. I found this,
http://easy-taobao.com/taobao/view/id/21113956706
Is it better unit then the HS1010A?
HS1332A is better, because it has higher range and slightly better accuracy than the HS1010A.
These lux meters share the same manual. I don’t have much time to copy the specs so here is a picture of the relevant part:
Thanks alot Chloe ![]()
Is Easy Tabao reliable site?
I doubt that there are many here at blf that own one of these cheap meters who is actually able to measure the accuracy of their luxmeter's reading, or the accuracy of its wavelength response.
So asking for the accuracy of a non-calibrated meter is a very tough question.
I’m aware of that. I just want to get the best pick out of this affordable meters, thanks.
I’ve been fairly happy with the HS1010A I got. It’d be nice if it could read lower values (any reading under 5 lux or so is basically junk), but it works well otherwise and I’ve been a little surprised at some of the results I’ve gotten (even though I haven’t fully calibrated my setup yet).
Now I just need to make time to build an integrating sphere. I made a simple light box a couple days ago and it seems reasonably decent, but a sphere would be more accurate and allow me to measure brighter lights.
I’d recommend avoiding anything with the sensor and display built into the same unit, because that makes it very difficult to read the values when the sensor is attached to a light chamber.
Thanks for sharing your experience and recommendations ![]()
