Best oversized head for L2 bodies

This issue was discussed in a number of older threads but I want to update it in case there are any new answers. I have a number of Solarforce L2 flashlights but want one with a larger than standard head. I could get a M3 head and even replace the XM-L LED with a XM-L2 or XP-L. Or I could get the larger K3 head with the MT-G2 LED. However either of those solutions will cost in the vicinity of $50+. So is there currently a cheaper solution? Is there another flashlight head that will fit on my L2 bodies? I know I can just buy a cheap no-name flashlight with a XP-L drop in for about $18. But I would rather get something that will fit my Solarforce L2 system. So who has already done this? Or who has the M3 or K3 and what has your experience been? Thanks

I have the M3 and it’s a pretty good chunk of aluminum and a great heat sink.
It has good throw but it’s a tight beam, not much spill.
It’s getting some mods done and pushed harder, should be around 1100 OTF when done, I’m running two 18650.
With what I now know I would probably say the K3 would be a better all around choice.
And it’s really hard to go wrong with the quality of Solarforce.

Thanks for the info. I agree about the Solarforce quality. Did you leave the XM-L in the M3 that is being modified or are you pumping it up to another LED? I would still like to get away with a larger head and not pay the $50+. I enjoy my L2M’s especially the minis, but I also have a knock off C8 that only cost $16 and is a good light. Not as much fun as the L2M minis but it does it’s job. So if I could buy a larger head flashlight and match the head to a Solarforce double long body that would be perfect.

Upgraded to an XM-L2, I figure if I’m going to the trouble of increasing output I would be better off with a more efficient emitter.
Adding a bunch of copper also but I’m only driving it at 3 amps so it probably doesn’t need it. Still a work in progress
You could mod the C8 you have but the M3 and K3 are better built IMO.
The C8 and M3 are both roughly equal throwers.

How did u take the drop-in out? I have difficulty in even unscrewing the bezel :frowning:

I guess putting a MT-G2 in a M3 would be a waste and not efficent.

Yes I was just hoping to find a head that is cheaper than $35 - 55 to get the extra throw of a M3 or K3.
