Yep. Power is out everywhere. That "crazy flashlight guy" seems to be the most popular person in the building right now.
I'm just handing out NiMh lights to the unwashed hordes. I've got my magnetic Olights and Xtars stuck to the ceiling Fixtures. BLF A8 tail standing in the kitchen with a P-Rocket and an X-Thrower. A Sunwayman Torpedo with a LiFePo4 screwed onto a gorillapod on my table, and a Balder SE1 NiMh in my pocket.
Man, those MT-G2 light up an apartment hallway like the sun at noon.
Do you usually put your lights on full blast?
I’ve only ever had 1 power outage in the past year and I know that the power will come back within an hour or two so I just turn everything to turbo in the hallways, and frequently accessed rooms (or with people inside) with open doors. Never had batteries go flat on me, but then again the power outages here usually last less than 30 minutes.
Then as any flashaholic would do I like to walk outside and look at my house all lit up from the inside illuminating the court because the street lights are off.
The few power outages that we've had in the past few years have always been the type where it might be an hour, day or week - just no way to know. That being the case, I always use the lowest levels that are useful for what I'm doing to conserve batteries.. I've got a pretty good stash of 18650s, but I couldn't run everything on turbo for a week..
As of 4:30 AM, power has been restored to most of the area. There are still about 35000 hydro customers without power. All of the multiple lane roads and highways in valleys and low lying areas have been slowly drained/pumped out and are now open for the morning commute.
Not sure if there are any public transit subway stations still without power.
It was the most rainfall for Toronto in a single day, ever. More than hurricane Hazel in 1955. The police had to rescue commuters from Go-Trains with boats.
I was mostly using lights that ran well on medium with little noticable heat.
I suppose I’ll be running my chargers for a bit. While I was digging around for light selections, I found batteries I’d forgotten I had.
