Bike light / headlamp combo lights

Does anyone know if there is a comparison of the available combo headlamp / bikelights? I am looking for one that I can use on my bike and camping etc.
So far I have found a few distinct options.

I have an older Petzl XP (it’s ruined headband is the instigator of this search) and a Redline SE.

Overall, I personally am looking for a:

  • Headlamp/Bikelight combo
  • that is Zoomable
  • and uses a long lasting battery pack that mounts on the headband (doesn’t have to go on a belt clip).

(I recognize the last 2 don’t fit my own criteria.)
I like the first one the best but it looks like it’s handlebar mount sucks.
Are there any other lights that should be added to the list?
Thanks for any input!
John

i have all of them except that flashlight/headlight combo.
they’re good for their price… of course the 3 LEDs is the brightest from them all…
for biking the 3 LEDs is more than enough, for use on daily basis or working on something close…
i suggest get one of these
ignore the 1800 lumens all of them were never correct, it’s more like around 400 lumens … which is more than enough.
i liked them a lot … i bought 3 of them as gifts
and check this cheap headlamp
i like this seller from ebay as they ship the item really fast… i usually get it about 10 days after i order ( including weekend)

Thanks for the replyDayLiighter.
You mentioned 3 leds would be enough for cycling. Would you shy from recommending one of the single led lights on the list for cycling?

My mistake. I removed (Outdoor Waterproof 1600LM CREE XM-L T6 LED Headlamp) one of the lights I linked because it isn’t a combo like the others. This one won’t mount on a bike.

My post could have been a little more clear - do you know of any multi use combo lights?

i have single light too, i used them for cycling before… it was great, until i discover multi LEDs
but back then i don’t have a choice… now if i were you… just get the multiple LEDs since it only few bucks more.
remember… you only want to buy it once. so get something like 4 LED bike headlight … i have one of this and it’s bright!
unfortunately the quality is not so great… it start to short itself out within a month :Sp
but who knows maybe i have a bad batch :frowning:
this 4 LEDs is also nice… i have the 3 LEDs version from SkyRay… it bright enough for other driver on the other side of the road to high beam me when they see me coming  ( better safe than sorry)

I get the feeling that these lights might be too bright for use during daylight on busy trails and more oriented towards areas that aren’t commonly used by cyclists.
Say I get a 3 or 4 led light and it is too bright for my taste / environment on low power - can I do anything to get it lower? I have read a few reviews where people say low is not low enough.

um… i’m confused, why would you use these lights on daylight?
no such thing as the light too bright at night… you just have to aim it lower or use diffuser to spread it wider or use low mod
anyway, i like to be seen from miles away rather than last secs
i’ve seen somebody got run over at night because she wasn’t riding with any lights on her.
not a pretty sight to be seen :Sp
i’m more like a disco lights on wheels( literally )

Remember that during the day those lights will not appear to be as bright because of ambient light. I can hardly see the beam of my TN-31 when outdoors during the day even when it’s overcast.

well if that the case… yes of course i supposed you can use your headlight during the day.
most headlights these days are pretty bright especially the multiple LEDs, unless it is very foggy that you can’t see your own hands.
but then again… you shouldn’t be out there riding in those condition anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

This one looks pretty good but I wish it was 2x 18650 instead of a single 1800mah lipo. Does anyone know where to find a 18650 version of this? That way I could have 2x 18650 on the headlamp and have the option for a bigger pack on my bike.

Another similar one but it has the big battery pack.

That Cree XM-L T6 looks hardcore enough for me.

Well I bought the http://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-XM-L-U2-LED-Headlamp-Zoom-Headlight-Bicycle-Light-Flashlight-Torch-Zoomable-/251060235556 and forgot it on the charger overnight. It was at 4.61v, looks like I need a balance connector setup to rig to my accucel 6 so I don’t burn my house down.

Hello all,

Although my first post here, I can’t help but think that all those headlights with the battery box with LiPos placed ON your head (at a sensitive area that is) is not something I would feel comfortable with. If I am going to put batteries ON my head they would have to be NiMh. I know I am overreacting but better safe than sorry.

Now compared to dedicated bike lights and especially quality ones they might be cheap but most of them suffer from heat issues and don’t produce nowhere near the output they claim. Of course, not everybody needs huge 2000 lumens while normal cycling but the most important thing to note when it comes to those cheap lights is how long CONTINUOUSLY they can work in the other than high modes. That is if they have really useful modes.

With that said, and given the fact that I neither need huge output nor am I going to descent dangerous mountains at night, I have ordered a Trustfire D009 and when here I will report back on how it works out.

Another important thing to notice is that a lot of people don’t pay enough attention to the Tail light and most of the cheap ones out suck big time output wise. Unfortunately there are not many quality options when it comes to tail lights and the most affordable proper one (Magicshine MJ-818) is not so cheap compared to most and has it’s issues that might have been corrected (the pcb rotates with the magnetic switch and eventually the cables get cut - you can DIY correct this though).

I intend to test some of the cheap versions but for me the most important thing about them is the lower modes compared to the high and how long they can run. Another issue is the bad quality battery packs that come with most of them.

Anyone got experience with Ferei BL200 1720 lumen bicycle light? I found it with discount on Liteshop while I was searching for bicycle lights

It says out of stock, but when i visited their store they said that they will have this product again very soon…
