I’m looking for a new front light for my bike.
My last light was a Cyclami BR2000, but after a few rain showers it stopped working.
I’m after something reliable, waterproof, powerful, and fully removable (not just the battery — I want the whole light to be easy to take off and service/replace parts if needed).
I’m leaning toward using a flashlight with a mount, but my main concern is that the beam might be too glaring or not shaped well for bike use.
I’m open to the idea of adding a TIR lens to shape the beam, but I don’t have any experience with that.
I’ve read some good feedback on the Lumintop B01, but it seems a bit old — although conceptually it matches what I’m looking for.
Any recommendations or advice on which lights (and lenses/supports) would be suitable for bike use?
I’ve been using a Convoy S21E with Nichia B35AM LED and 20x60 degree striped TIR. Narrower angles might sound more appropriate, but they don’t focus as well with the B35AM.
I’ve upgraded from the plastic mount seen here to a Trustfire HE02 aluminum mount.
I use a flashlight with a tightly focused beam a hundred lumens is fine. This is pointed a few feet in front of the wheel. Because it is tightly focused the beam does not annoy oncoming cars. In addition I use a weapons light also called a varmit light with a remote switch I can hit for down hills. This is pointed ahead of the main light. This is OK for a weapon light. I can also reccoment B.A.M.F.F or somehting from Academy.comhttps://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/jobsmart-pro-series-tac-360-led-weapon-light-1187438
Thank you, you have lots of good recommandations! Lots of flashlights from convoy seems well adaptated to cycling.
It is about the holder than I am less sure. The trustfire will not be strong enough for my use. And I can’t find any good option for now. The fenix seems the best but it is not suited for above 18650 flashlight and is a bit bulky.
Check out the “Lightfe” brand of handlebar mounts available from Amazon.
The 3rd, 4th & 6th styles look like solid options since they are all constructed from aluminum & stainless steel, and each style is quick release.
Personally, I also like these SmallRig Super Clamps for mounting lights to just about anything. There are a variety of options for connecting 2 clamps together. Just browse what they offer and go from there, as well as checking out similar mounting products listed on Amazon. I hope that helps!
No idea where you at, but if you’re in like Europe and stuff, you might legally be required to only get a bike light that’s blessed by St Vizo, the patron saint of bicycles.
I live in France, so yes, there is regulations. For now I never have been controled by police.
I hope that with a good beam, focused on the road with tir lenses etc. I should not have too much problems.
I thought about something with gopro fixations. The first part would be fixed on the handlebars, second would link the first with the third.
I have to think a bit more about it haha
