I (well, that´s me + a buddy) need some ideas for a birthday present. The person is:
- male
- born 1966 (so he will be 47)
- he owns a bar/billard café (and he surely makes a lot of money there!)
- he is very friendly and always give me + my billard friend a free drink when we leave or he gives us a coupon for 1 hour free
he´s sooomehow shy. He´s not very talkative but I know he enjoys our presence and likes us/likes to talk with us. Hard to explain
> budget is ~20€ or ~25USD. (does not need to be 25USD. If there´s something really neat for 13UDS, that´s also ok)
Unfortunately, that´s all I know about him. I see him once a week and we don´t talk thaaaat much (he works, I play Billard). But I like him and he likes me/us
I want to give him something for his upcoming birthday. What would you suggest?
A knife? Sure, knifes are cool but you either love knives or you don´t, right?
A flashlight? We all love flashlights. But how can I know he´s not like “well… thanks (a flashlight? wtf?)”. If so, which one? A Set with charger and battery (like a Sipik) or what?
I bet its not often patrons give him gifts so even if it seems insignificant, I bet he would appreciate it.
Get him a AA powered light like a single mode uniquefire g10. Then next time u see him, while he tells you how much he likes the light, you whip out a 14500 and bam!….flashaholic.
You could be sneaky and pretend you need a flashlight to check something out while you’re there. That way you could check to see what kind of light he brings out. If he brings out an old incandescent light for you then you know you should get him a better light.
I’m not too good at presents. Usually I just give money along with a card.
AA batteries are available anywhere, they don’t have to be rechargeable, this light does not run in 14500 li ion, it runs on alkalines or better yet nimh
i just bought this one based on a lot of AA light research, should arrive in a week or two, its the highest lumen AA light under $35 i’ve found, you could also order from md-lightsource with code BLF for about the same price and faster shipping
I don´t know. I don´t like 95% of the flashlight designs you guys all love. I like clear design with repeating elements and NOT randomly designed parts.
Knives: in Germany (same country as yours) we dont gift knives because they "cut" friendships. I guess thats some ancient stuff, but people still believe in that. We are weird.
I think something like the DQG AA: http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=424 would be cool because its good quality and runs with regular Alkaline batteries. Sipiks always feel cheap and you wont get decent LiIon cells and charger on that budget.
