Today I was able to do some hardness tests on a couple of knives that I had.
I used an Instron hardness tester, which makes an imprint on a sample and measures its hardness (or softness).
Calibration:
The hardness calibration block had a factory pre-defined value of 62.67 HRC. When tested with the machine, it measured 61.9 HRC, so it was very accurate.
So the knives I had were: Ganzo G704, Kershaw Speedbump, and a Morakniv Companion.

I tested each blade at two different locations (didn’t want to make too many dents) and here are the averaged results:
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Chinese-made Speedbump and the G704 were up to advertised spec of 57-59 HRC as well as the Mora. Each measurement can have some deviations though, and many more tests would have been needed for an accurate result.
Very cool bit of kit, I find myself wanting one very much but something that useful will be way beyond my budget.

Your reading is within the range they advertize here but I was hoping they would actually tend towards 60. Thank you for the response. That is one real cool piece of equipment you got there. Congrats :)
Thanks, it’s in the Material Science Lab, and they have a bunch of cool stuff, including furnaces, hardness testers, optical microscopes, polishing benches, etc.
I also forgot to mention that I measured the 3M Scissors at 49.5 HRC. Not sure if the titanium coating helps that much.
