BLF A6 XPL Issue

I’ve had a BLF A6 for a year now and can’t figure out an issue I’m having. No matter what brightness level it is set at it automatically dims every 5 seconds until it is at the lowest level. For example, I turn it on and set it to the highest level. 5 seconds later is gets dimmer without me pressing anything. Then again 5 seconds later, ect. ect. It has done this since I bought it. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

Correction, the initial dim is after about 5 secs then subsequent dims are about 3 secs until it turns off.

I found this in the manual I wonder if it is relevant

Low-voltage protection will progressively step down the output at
about 2.8V, and the light will shut itself off when even the
lowest level gets below 2.8V.

Please let us know if charging the battery fixes the problem
