I have to totally agree about ugly and boring. To me, this MF01X is one of the best looking new lights: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/68707. I'd order one just because it looks so cool!
But really, a black camping light makes no sense - I want something easy to see and find in a bag, for example. Sure you can add some neon tape I suppose.
Oh that’s a good suggestion for on a table! 3D printing just doesn’t do it for me, but a nice wooden stand I can totally imagine. Have some pieces of oak lying around that might be suitable. Bit more outdoor proof as well than plywood.
I’ve grown into the look of the LT1, maybe back then I thought it looked boring, but never ugly, in fact by comparison to literally every single lantern type light I think it was the best looking, even if it was just a Q8 with a piece of plastic on top.
The tripod mount threads would require the base to be much thicker, (thus making the mini taller) A magnet base would be the better option, for using a flat plate for added stability.
The flashing pads appear to have the two columns reversed. So it says “1 2 3 4” on the pads for pins 8, 7, 6, and 5. And it says “8 7 6 5” on the pads for pins 1, 2, 3, and 4. Oops. Easy mistake to make though, and it doesn’t really hurt anything.
The unfortunate part is that the pads don’t follow the spacing used by BLF adapters like the HQ ProgKey, Lexel’s adapter, or Emisar’s flashing kit. And Sofirn doesn’t sell an adapter (yet). So I haven’t been able to flash it, since none of my adapters fit.
Here’s how it looks when trying to use a HQ ProgKey. I couldn’t get all the pads connected at the same time:
I think Sofirn might try to update their lights to use attiny1616 though, which would mean everything gets a new 3-pin flashing layout instead of the 6-pin or 8-pin layouts used in the past. The 3-pin design is already used on the SP10 Pro, and Sofirn is trying to put together a flashing kit for it. So I’m hoping the other models will get it too.
If that happens, I could also add thermal regulation… though it sounds like it’s not really necessary.
