Brainstorming about my perfect headlamp

I’ve talked to chargpt about this but it keeps telling me that this would be hard to make. I’d like some of you guys opinions.

Would it be possible to make headlamp with a ipx8 or ip68 rating,

that has both a flood and a spot similar to the Fenix Hp35r or the Argolamp 2.0,

but Instead of 2 LEDs for the flood, I would like it to have something like the Firefly Novmu mule setup, or maybe a Acebeam E75 but more floody 100 ish degree angle cause it’s high CRI but also constant current,

something that can sustain 800 lumens without dimming,

while also using the spot mode side at a similar output would this create too much heat ? I’m talking about for hours on end

Would it require 1 or more fans ? Could it sustain these outputs with no fan?

My rough estimate would be around 3 amps total for more than 2 hours

2 x 21700 cells on the back of the helmet.

That one comes close but the guy keeps giving me the runaround and is not answering my question when I ask him if he uses constant current drivers and the light can actually sustain what his runtime charts say it can.

Nobody knows If the 3 amp estimate is correct or if the lamp could handle that?

What purpose is of your headlamp? Why carry everything on your head when you can carry it in your pocket or backpack?

It is just physics.
Find from the LED datasheet the current and heat produced at your desired ouput.

Thrn calculate the aluminum surface area nedded in order to dissipate that amount of heat.

You probably should have posted that at the beginning of your subject over on Reddit.

And you should post that at the beginning of every question you post here.

It will save everybody a lot of time.

I am not sure about the OP, but sometimes I want to use both hands for something other than holding a flashlight. I always have a couple of “pocket” lights on me. When doing things like food prep, working on the car, poking around inside my PC, plumbing under the sink… having to hold a flashlight is just not what I want to do.

or if I fall down when I’m walking

Also, when I’m walking with a flashlight in my hand my hand shakes more than my head, which shakes my beam profile which gets annoying

also even when I have the flashlight on high mode when I hold it next to my waist it seems less bright on the ground because the beam angle is not really a optimal

For example when I have a flashlight on 800 lumens in my hand it seems about as bright as a 400 lumens on my forehead

I mean … USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR TASK! YOU WANT WEAR HUGE LAMP ON YOUR HEAD IF YOU NEED SMALL ONE?

The one in the picture is not that huge

I have another one that’s on my wish list Lumpnite, e the Finish company that’s even bigger

The one in the picture is almost perfect but I could not find any runtime tests on it

I don’t want to spend $640 on a headlamp that dims in 2 minutes, other than that it’s perfect

It has a ultra wide mule like beam and it has a very narrow 5 degree optic it’s beautiful

But that wasn’t the point of my f**** question anyway

800 Lumens sustained in a small-ish headlamp is asking a lot. Ive tested the HP30R V2 and HP35R and they don’t sustain that out9ut for very long. Plus, very heavy and limited to basically search and rescue or tasks requiring 500+ Lumens for hours. Thr HP35R can do it. I trstes the Magicshine MOH55 Pro and it’s good too. There’s one from Olight too that has a cooling fan, and I think one from a Finnish or Swedish company. Those are out on 1Lumen (Marco reviewed them). The FireflyLite L70 is a good one too. Not 800 Lumens, but close.

No, the Fenix HP35r can maintain 1000 lumens on the spot mode for 4 hours straight.

You said it cannot do it for very long. It can do it for 4 hours straight, without dimming

Also I own and have tested already the Acebeam h30 which can hold 1000 lumens for 2 hours and 30 minutes with the stock 5000mah battery

With the Vapecell F56 5600mah battery I got 2 hrs 41 minutes without dimming.

That’s what I meant when I said I hate listening to people who are stupider than than me.

What I don’t like about the Ace beam is that the angle is not wide enough, I kind of prefer a mule for the wide-angle/ the flood.

That kind of writing will not make anyone want to help you. I agree that What Sirstinky wrote was very confusing. I couldn’t figure out what he meant either… I can assure you that he is not “stupid”. Especially when it comes to flashlights. He has more experience in this field than most of us around here. He has used and tested hundreds of lights over the years! So, you might want to choose your words more carefully going forward.

I re-read my review. It’s (HP35R) and with the flood and spot LEDs on Turbo its a hair over 1000 so I stand corrected.

I will add this: In all seriousness the difference between 800, 900 and 1000 Lumens is mostly unnoticable with the naked eye.
