I’m looking for a new flashlight, and I found the eagletac t25c2 to perfectly fit my needs.
I like to be able to preselect the output before turning the light on, I like to have quick access to strobe, and I want it to have decent output on high. A forward clicky for momentary on is also a preference. The t25c2 has this all, but it comes at a price.
I can get it locally for around 81$. It’s atleast less than MAP but still more than I actually would like to spend.
If there’s a cheaper alternative, around 30/40$ shipped, I would like to hear it.
I believe there are plenty of less expensive flashlights that can do what the T25C2 can do @ $100, but they won’t have the UI or features of it. (pre-select, quick access option to toggle on, swappable LED emitters)
At the $81 price point you’ve found it at locally, I’d take it.
I’m sure some of the Nitecore SR series stuff comes real close in features. But I’ve seen bad things happen with their chargers, so I’d expect more of the same from their torches. (quality control/dependability) And besides, they cost just as much as an Eagletac.
LOL. I’m learning this fast and hard.
Outside of the way you access 4th level low mode (and how 4th mode could stand to be lower than it is), I think the T25C2’s driver and interface is fantastic for an end user. Really simple and useful modes, with a good deal of superfluous blinky options (quick access to strobe if you want), but the blinky options are well hidden outside of normal use.
It’s a respectable thrower in it’s class for sure, with CW and NW options (and now the XP-L V5 too). Buy a triple Nichia 219 emitter to swap in, and suddenly it’s a great high CRI flooder for a walk in the woods too. Buy the XM-L multi-color emitter to swap in, and throw a RAVE party in your backyard.
Thing is - it’s a real deal breaker for many potential buyers who are actually going to use those lower modes. G25C2 has better UI, unfortunately it’s also slightly bigger.
BLF x6 will be bought when possible, but from what I’ve read it does not have preselect mode. It has mode memory but I like to be able to set the setting while the light is off. And it doesn’t even has a strobe, let alone a quick acces. The gt25c2 has access to strobe by quickly doublepressing the switch
Do you really need strobe? Not saying you don’t. But the reality is, strobe is a niche specialist mode or novelty. Most people nearly all of the time will have no use for it.
Most of my lights I don’t want strobe, that’s true. Especially in lights with horrible mode selection or next mode memory they annoy me a lot.
This one I want to be able to use as a defence light. Strobe also attracts more attention than normal light.
I expect to never need or use it, but I do like to have some lights with this ability. And a hidden strobe but quickly accessible has it’s functions. My gx25a3 has this, and I like it’s interface. So I was looking at something with 18650 that has the same function.
And, well, it is also a bit of a gadget factor of course. Showing off with a light that has special abilities.
Whipping out the strobe on am EDC torch is, quite frankly, fun. It’s even better when it’s well hidden but easily accessed outside of real flashlight use. (aka you don’t have to always inadvertently scroll through it)
Sure, it can be as annoying like laser pointers, but at least the flashlight has real legitimate use otherwise outside of the “cool gadget factor” that satisfies the “child/geek” in us. Also, having a torch on you with 900+ lumens and blinky modes is one of those little features you hope you never have to legitimately use, but always good to know that it’s there.
I myself, make no apologies for being a grown ass man who is easily amused by blinking lights. It’s one of those superfluous things some of us absolutely want in our lights, “just because.” LOL
Well, I bit the bullet and bought the t25c2. I’m almost sure it will totally fit my needs and will satisfy my buying needs for a couple of weeks
