budget edc around 20 USD

Hi,

I feel this is never ending topic.

searching the forum, still it will be nice to get expert advice / suggestion.

my budget usd 20 max 25.

please some with AA or 18650.

Regards,
BT

UF-2100 and if you want it to be regulated, buy also KD 8*7135 or nanjg 105C with it. Yesterday I couldn’t resist and ordered it for myself, too.

Besides a $20-$25 max limit, you request is still quite broad. It would help to narrow it down a bit. Things like:

- Flooder or thrower preference?

- Max size?

- Emitter choice?

- any runtime req's?

- Pocket clip / no pocket clip?

It would help us narrow it down...

Is it truly an EDC light for pocket carry or do you need a lot of light every day? Output difference between a single AA pocket size light (My definition of an EDC or even AAA) and an 18650 light is quite large.

thanks for the reply.
As of now only considering the followings.

size max UF-2100 & led t6.

Need to buy very soon.

Thanks,
BT

I’ve just built one from a host kit and I love it.

You can adapt a solarforce clip if you want a clip but I don’t personally like them. Otherwise, it’ll take any 18650 I’ve found to try including the long fat efest cells, the clicky is firm enough and recessed enough not to activate in the pocket, tailstands with a claw clipped to it, its just brilliant.

I’ll +1 on the EDC 18650 that gords has posted above. Although the XP-G2 is $26 so a dollar over budget.

Also remember while the XP-G2 produces less lumens it throws a lot further than an XM-L, so it’s not all about the biggest lumen number.

I’m also a big fan of the Solarforce L2M as you can run it in a stumpy mode and use 1xRCR. This is my favoured setup running it with a Manafont Ultrafire XM-L T6 3 mode. Very very bright and under $30 all in (just over budget again….)

You can get the L2M here: solarforceflashlight-sales.com - Informationen zum Thema solarforceflashlight sales.

It can either be used as a 1x18650 light, or remove the extension and run it with 1xRCR

In the stumpy 1xRCR mode:

As it’s a p60 light you’ll need a drop in (this means you can have several drop ins and vary what the light does; flood, throw, etc.)

This is a good drop in: http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/ultrafire-cree-t6-3mode-memory-led-dropin-module-42v-max-p-5178

I do have to admit, I stuck a u2 in mine and a quite expensive driver about $7 compared to $4 for the nanjg driver. My driver has absolutely no pwm, and no tint shift between the modes (dont know if that’s down to led or driver tbh) for me, pwm is only noticable when I’m checking running engines (pulleys and bolts on the pulleys strobe like under a timing light) its not a big problem, but nice to not have it. Also the mode memory is good, I’ve not been tripped up with it yet, its always on low, with high a half click away. The throw is good enough too, be nice to compare it to an xp-g2 but flood suits me in an edc that’s mostly used close quarters at work or as a room light tailstanding when feeding my six month old in the night.

I was very tempted to put one of my u3’s in it, but will save them now I’ve been using it, i’ll just get some more hosts for them. 8)

Balder SE-1 xm-l for flood or xp-g for more throw.

buy C8 and be done with it.

Too big for EDC.

like the lights.

any lights from ebay?

BT

What driver did you use in this, Graham? Care to share a link?

Here you go johnny.

http://www.intl-outdoor.com/ld25-26a-35modes-circuit-board-p-414.html

I’m really taken with it for a smaller edc xm-l host. It still gets warm, but its not too much.

Edit:-

I read 2.55a - 1.15a - .15a if I remember right.

Sipik SK73 - very small 1x18650 XM-L T6 zoomie. Do have to check that the emitter star is not loose - may want to add thermal grease and don’t use it on high power continuously for more than a couple of minutes. $11 at Manafont, < $12 at DX. Then take the extra money and get a decent 18650. DX claims 450 lumens output. Manafont claims much more, but their claim is not realistic.
