Built my first triple S2+ 519AT 4500k

Nothing ground breaking, but it was a fun project.

S2+ host.
519AT 4500k M650 M450 on MTN mcpcb.
Carclo 10511
MTN copper spacer
Texas Avenger 17mm Fet+1+6 w/Bistro Tripledown.
Bypassed tail spring.
Samsung 30Q

I flowed the spacer onto the pill, then drilled and chamfered the holes.
I replaced the switch with an Omten I had from MTN, as it felt more clicky than the switch from the host. Bypassed spring with 20ga wire.
I used 20ga wire for the emitters as well. I didn’t want to run anything bigger as I was trying to be conscious about current.
I’m gonna need to take it apart to deal with the small hair and the speck under the glass.
This is my first build with 519 emitters.
I love the tint of these 9080. As I understand, they are discontinued which is a shame.
I was aiming to keep the amps a smidge lower, bit I think 18.39a is OK as long as I don’t hammer turbo all the time.

I forgot to mention, I hand soldered the 6 - 7135 on the spring side. I was trying to keep them as far from the edge as possible, for retaining ring clearance.
If I used hot air as I normally do, they would migrate towards the edge for sure.

I ordered a few S2+ recently since I still don’t have any yet. Also got some 3P and 4P 20mm boards with optics from KD. FFL351A and NTG35 in different CCTs for mules and I still have a 3xSFT-25R somewhere. And I need to reflow a 3xSST-20DR board. Looks like I’ll be making bunch of spacers.

I just ordered some 20mm copper discs in 2mm and 0.8mm to make spacers for S21E triple builds.
If I did the math right, I’ll stack 2-2mm and 2-0.8mm discs. Add the 1.6mm mcpcb and optic and that should fit the S21E perfectly.

Very nice build! Chamfering the holes was a must; I’ve got sliced insulation on my driver wires before doing that.

I can’t help noticing something unusual here: per Nichia’s datasheet (pp. 8/44), 4500K R9080 is available in flux bin at most M500, yet you received samples labeled as M650, a full 30% higher!

Has Nichia silently upgraded the old 519A (not the V1 since it doesn’t have 4500K), or has mtnelectronics mislabeled them?

I’m not sure about the 519AT being labeled as M650. I’ve never looked into the emitter before deciding to build this triple.
Google tells me the M650 is a 9080. It might be worth asking MTN for clarification though. Whatever they are, I really like them.
It would be great if this were indeed a silent reintroduction by Nichia.

ETA: Consider me a flashlight newb, until recently, I’ve been out of the hobby since the XML was the newest hottest emitter. :face_with_peeking_eye:

This is the spacer for S21G and S21B I made. S21E should have the same dimensions. 3x2mm discs should be perfect.

I wonder which version of the 4500K 519A MTN has? My guess is since they specify M650, it is either R70 or R800 and they mistakenly stated it has 90+ CRI. It would be pretty cool though if they have the R9080 version!

Yeah, looking at the Nichia datasheet, that seems to be the case. It seems to fall between R70-R8000
