I am not new to electronics I’m in school for computer engineering and have built a couple chinesenlights buying ultrafires and modding with my own drivers and led modules.

I want a maglite and can’t decide really which to get. I want a c cell tube and stumbled across the ml50l. Seems like a nice lumens output at 611 on a 3 cell without modding. Does anyone know if the driver can take the increased voltage of 2x18650’s? I couldn’t find anything searching but i already have the batteries lying around I’ll just design a sleeve to go with it. Also couldn’t decide which topic to post this under as it can reference alkaline or 18650s technically also 26650/ i just don’t already own those

Oh and this is a light for my truck full time so a longer tube heavy light isn’t a bad idea. I was originally looking into a 4 cell and modding to 3x26650s but then I’m looking into some very expensive drivers i couldn’t find reasonable priced heatsink that fit the light for modding to my own led

gives me a maglite feel and will be a lot better light overall

Here is my 2D Maglite modded to take 2*26650 in series with a Lexel driver (electronic side switch, ramping…)and an XHP70 (was an MT-G2 for a while). I also replaced the stock plastic reflector and lens for aluminum and glass equivalent.

That convoy L6 looks pretty insane overkill and has a giant head on it at 70mm but another reason i so strongly consider the ml50l is because in a pinch corner store batteries will work just fine which is perfect for a truck away from power. Kinda the same stuff on the wowtac light.

so you want to use corner store batteries but you also want to mod it?

the L6 has a giant head to deal with the heat of 4000 lumen and to give it somewhat of a focused beam.

Love my purple fire-starter (link) custom Adventure Sports Maglite (hand built by Mat). UI programming DrJones Guppy2drv. 5,000 lumens on high. Uses two 26650's. Gets scorching hot if PID is not turned on.

In your first post you are asking if the 3C Led maglite with about 600 lumen is any good, but you want to mod it with 2 Lithium cells, and now you have changed your mind?

Or do you want to be able to use Alkaleaks when your Lithium cells are empty?

If the ml50l can take 8.4v
I want it to mod it, but i will not be modding case as far as battery tube goes i will be creating a battery sleeve with extender to fit case where 3 c cells would fit so that if my li-pos are dead i can just throw in some c cells to have a flashlight on the road. The driver will remain untouched as i will be happy with around 650 lumens with little work / money the light is only $25 bucks

If the ml50l cannot take 8.4v i will purchase a 4 cell incandescent version
I will purchase 3*26650’s as they will be nearly identical to 4 c cells and find/ purchase a drop in that i can throw a driver capable of the voltage and an LED to go with it. I couldn’t find a heatsink that fit the case out of the box other than pre built very pricy ones.

Sounds like you need two lights to me.

You might try a dummy cell, so when using a 3C, you can use 1x Lithium on 4,2 V.

I find the 2C size handiest.

Only time I’ve reached for my 6D M@g was when a neighbor called me over to help with shutting down her teenager’s party, because some of the young male guests had refused to leave and were threatening to get rowdy.

Hi Terry, Do you have any extra purple or green Mag hosts? I would MOD or have Modded those 2 colors for collection. BUT if you decide to sell the purple one give a a hollar. Thanks.

Yeah hank, That is why I love baton type of lights. Maglite, Police Security, Standsport, etc… Great defensive tools.
