I just got done with my C8TT build and the output doesnt seem so high. I did notice that the optic sits ontop of the led’s instead of over. Is this normal? If you ask me, I’d say its blocking light so I’m asking you fine folks!

Thanks.

I’m running a FET+1 driver, a triple XPL-HI with TIR optic powered by an Efest Purple.

Triple tir optics like carclo or ledil cute-3 is widely used and recommended for newbies. You dont need to find any holders, led centering rings, play with their height and etc. You just take any suitable pcb, place optics legs in right holes and thats all. No extra tune-up needed.
Cute-3 optics was developed long time ago, it was made for old leds with big dies and bubbles on top surface helps to mix colors in rgb bulbs (MR16 standart). This bubbles dont help with strong hotspot, some users sand them flat but I dont have such experience.

These are de-domed led’s so there flat. The optic is sitting on top of the led blocking half of it. That is what I’m asking about…

Do you wonder big distance from led to the tir opening?

?
Not quite sure what you asked there but I pulled apart my S2+ build and the optic is sitting on the LEDs as well. I also pulled apart my S41s and that led had big enough holes for the LEDs to fit inside. They were Domed LEDs but it seems like the way the setup should be.

Im asking how do you see the problem. You think optics is too far from the led die?

I don’t know if its a problem. I was asking if this is normal.
Your design works well by the way! It handles heat like a champ!

Kiriba-ru, can I run three XHP50.2 Led’s in this build with your heatsink?

I appreciate your time!

Yes, if you find suitable pcb (sinkpad), use boost driver or 2s fet driver with 2x18350.

I figured i could just re-flow them onto the existing MCPCB. Will that not work?

No, noctigon triple pcb was made for xp size leds (3.5×3.5mm).

I thought the XHP50.2’S are the same size as the XPL-HI Leds?

No, they are 5×5mm.

No, they are XM size, 5050, not 3535.

Would XHP35.2’S work?

No, unless you will find 12v boost driver.
