My wife and I recently got to spend 4 days camping in a remote (50 miles from nearest pavement) area of south central Utah. A great chance to test out some flashlights, so I brought a box of them. Solarforce L2 with xml-u2, Fandy HD2010, Fandy Stl-v6 and BlackShadow Darth (plus a whole bunch of head lamps). Super black out there and lots of near and distant sandstone cliffs to illuminate. For ease of carry and all-round decent use, the Solarforce is hard to beat. The two Fandy throwers were very satisfying to aim across the canyon and light up a wall with. The Darth really blew me away though. Almost as much throw as the two Fandy’s, but lots more usable flood. I heard some noise among the junipers, aimed the Darth and found several wild horses checking us out. Later discovered that it made an excellent reading light on low setting while tail standing inside my camper shell. I very much liked the magnetic switch for lock-out or selecting power setting. All in all, a fantastic light. Relatively compact (especially for a 3 cell, 3 emitter light). If only it were a small bit lighter……….
Sounds like a great place to spend some time with some lights!!
So the Darth is basically like an expensive SRK? Similar flood I guess?
Keep up those trips with the family, we are heading into Botswana next month, hope to light up the bush!
Cheers
Anton
Darth is a bit smaller in the hand - 3 cells versus 4. Also has the magnetic ring switch. Botswana should be awesome!
wild horses?
Yep. There is actually an over population issue with them. The herd increases ~ 20% per year. Great to see them in the wild though.
Was lucky enough to see some when hiking in the Fish River Canyon…
