Can I re-seal my MH12PRO's side button without sending it to warranty?

Hi!

So what happened: I overlubed the threads because, for the first time, I used an earbud instead of a toothpick (this is how I used to lube them for the previous 12 years) and when I screwed the tailcap back in, the pressure build-up was enough to push the side button out. Nitecore advised that the pressure should not push the button out, by the way, and advised to contact the seller in order to fix the issue.

I can place the button in without issue, it works fine, but no more IP68 and I am sure that the button might fall off in the future as well. I could clearly see that a thin layer the silicon used to be present there, around the button edges (under the button).

Anyway, this is a gift from my wife, I’d rather not risk having it repalced or get a refund. If someone can advise what exactly I can use to re-seal the button (unless you see any other issue in the photo) I’d just try to get the silicon and go to a smartphone shop (or a shop that is used to work with these kind of materials and details) and get it fixed locally.

Hopefully you guys can help.
Thank you!

PS: Bad design or not, please, let’s keep it for another topic

That looks like a manufacturing defect rather than over pressure from screwing on the tailcap with lubricant. Since it looks pretty new, I would also recommend contacting the seller for a replacement. Your wife bought it for you so you would have a great light, a replacement from the seller won’t diminish that at all.

Edit: If you’re set on keeping this particular light, maybe some carefully applied super glue on the button shelf would seal it up.
