I have some Jetbeam MG20 lubricant and it has been mentioned not to use petroleum products since the body is plastic and this says its silicone grease, but its probably a low percentage of silicone, so any thoughts?
I doubt that it could possibly hurt the "Nylon 66" plastic that the Starry's body is made of.
No petroleum oils ever hurt my Remington Nylon .22 rifle.
I wouldn't be afraid to use it.
I would think petroleum would hurt rubber o-rings before it would hurt any nylon product.
I may have misread but i want to be as sure as possible that i won’t damage the light
Some say never use petroleum products on any plastics…
I think (?) with moderate use it’s not a problem to most modern plastics.
It shouldn’t be too thin oil though.
does thinness mean more damaging?
Silicone grease is silicone oil mixed with a thickener (fumed silica). There can be other chemicals too, like PTFE. I have the Jetbeam grease too, and wouldn’t worry about using it, but if still in doubt, maybe buy a silicone grease that has an MSDS so you know the exact ingredients.
