I purchased two Ultrafire C8 XML-T6 lights on amazon. Each of them I got from a different vender. The build quality of the one is great, however the other is quite disappointing. I knew this would likely be the case as they are both cheap flashlights made in China. What I am wondering now is, is one of them not really a XML-T6? The diodes do not look the same. Please see pictures and let me know what you think.
The bottom one looks like an XR-E. I bet it throws further than the other light, but is not as bright.
The one on the top is an XM-L. There’s no way to tell from looking at the picture if it’s a T6 or a lower brightness bin like a T5. But it’s quite plausible that it could be a T6.
The picture on the bottom is not an XM-L. Looks like maybe an XR-E. It’s 2 generations older than the XM-L, has a much smaller die and produces far less light.
yes its an xr-e. it will produce less lumens than the top xml light, but i bet the lux will be higher
XR-E in a C8 usually projects something that's got more rings in more different colors than Saturn, dunno if you'd consider that being 'better throw'. Maybe they work better in the right reflector, but I don't know which one that would be. The one I've seen was horrible. HORRIBLE! <shudder>
Definitely higher lux on the e, not to mention a bit tighter beam. It’s to bad because the build quality on the e is much higher.
You may be able to swap the pills between the two hosts
Pulsar- I could swap pills but I think I will keep them how they are since the XR-E is a good build quality and the one with the T# sucks. So I’ll just keep the good together for now lol.
Comfychair-I actually don’t see a bunch of colors or anything to crazy for rings. Must be I lucked out? Pictures below
XR-E
XML-T6
I see at least one greenish ring and one orange ring there, looks like mine did for about the first 30 seconds after I got it before I stripped it down. The reflector didn't work well at all with the smaller XPG2, but it's 'just OK' with an XML2, looks pretty similar to your second pic. At least the colored rings are gone, but it's still not one of my favorites. Maybe it would be better with a different reflector, but I'm not in love with the C8 format enough to spend money on a bunch of parts to play trial-and-error with it...
I’m happy enough with them for what I paid. That Nanjg 105c will be fine to drive either emitter correct?
That metal ring around the die does that... It's not the reflector
You don’t really want to go above 1.5 amps for the XR-E, 1 is the recommended max current by CREE.
Most of the newer ones they say can handle 2.8a. I have not been able to really get more than 2a, and haven't killed one.... From too much current anyways
Soo…. Probably a no go on the Nanjg 105c for the XR-E?
It will work, but I haven't been able to get more than about 2a out of one with a single cell
Will that pose any issues? I am not well versed in this.
No not really. I guess it could kill it, but they are cheap. Like $2.50 can get you an r2 on a star
Edit: I have had 3 I think driven at 2a now, and none of them were killed from the current... One from me bieng an idiot...
Sounds good to me
It had just as many artifacts, rings, and colors when I tried a de-domed XPG2. Smoothed out nicely with a dome-intact XML2.

IlluminationSupply has a 1.4A driver, but it's out of stock currently.
The led is xr-e, not xm-l e….we know man we were all ther once. These led names and bins are crazy lol.
I alao see a bit of ringiness in the beam but not
toooooo bad like an a60:)
