I just flashed my first driver YAY!!! Being horrible with computers and techy stuff, I’m so proud of myself!
I really love JohnnyC’s STAR firmware. I have a couple of these generic Qlites from Fasttech. However these drivers only have 3 stars. Does anyone know if these can be flashed with STAR firmware?
With the Qlite I flashed last night, I have stars 2,3, and 4 soldered so that it has moon enabled, High to Low, no memory.
(I actually like those generic drivers for some uses. PWM is worse than the genuine article, but no-mem, start-on-high makes them a good option for a tactical light that you may want in full brightness.)
I have had some hit or miss issues out of generic drivers and flashing them. I realm like the STAR firmware too. Wish I had more advice, but I am not an expert on this stuff
Congratz on your first flash.
As others have said those drivers may not use an attiny13. Look at the chip under bright light and a magnifier. An attiny13 will say something like:
ATMEL 1526
TINY13A
SSU
No need to read the whole thing if it’s hard to see, as long as you can see atmel or tiny13 on there.
I used them in former days for the exact same reason and I don’t like the memory from the standard nanjg because it stores the memory only after some seconds(to long for me). I had one kaidomain driver fail and delivering only half current(1.4A) and since I am able to flash them I always buy the genuine nanjg and flash them myself. It’s easy like breathing once you know how to adjust code and flash them.
Even the onetime memory STAR is a lot better because: memory kicks in faster and adjusting levels to your needs is what makes me happy all the time. High PWM, Low voltage step down and turbo are also wonderful features I don’t want to miss anymore. I praise JonnyC almost every day for making and sharing that firmware.
I just checked and you guys are right. The generic drivers I bought from Fasttech don’t use the Tiny 13A controller. There is nothing written on them at all.
Me too! I am so grateful to this community. I have learned so much from reading here. I’m hoping that I’ll some day be able to modify/write/design my own firmware someday like Toykeeper; she’s my hero! But since I’m a bit of a ditz, for now I will stick to flashing other people’s hex files (since I haven’t yet been able to figure out how to make covert c files into hex). :~
