According to the directions , it is intended to be applied to the reverse side of a glass surface ...
And some flashlights and laptop batteries have warnings not to tamper with them. The instructions are generally well advised, but are not absolutes.
Just because they are marketing it for creating mirrors, doesn’t mean that it can’t have other applications.
I believe that the only way you will achieve a mirror-like finish is to have it in a very smooth layer .
But there's really only one way to find out .

I’ve used it on old, rusted chrome pieces for a touch-up and it wasn’t bad; not as shiny as the chrome. I don’t have any left however to see how warm it can get.
Thanks for the info jack, jake, & Gotta. Sounds like it most likely wouldn’t work well on reflectors.
I saw somewhere on cpf where someone put aluminum foil on the back of TIR’s with good results. Maybe this stuff would be an even better alternative since it would be in a similar fashion to it’s intended application.
That light doesn’t escape TIR’s, not from the side anyway. Look at PilotPTK’s build of his light bar. He shows a 3 TIR optics sitting on top of the board in a dark room, so close to zero light escaping the optic you realize any coating or wrap is simply not necessary. A glue at the base might be the only place you could gain anything and that’d be so marginal as to not be worth trying.
Most of the coatings for reflectors are from VaporDischarge technology, the surface has to be so near to perfect to be useable, any irregulartiy will be greatly magnified by the light and make the beam ugly. Contact Phoenix Electroforms for further information on that. Nice folks over there even if their product is a little pricey.
Thank you Dale. Good info. Makes sense as the TIR’s purpose is to redirect the light (not misdirect it). Maybe the TIR’s were of poor design in the thread I read at CPF.
