I found a guy selling this online for about 5$ and, crazy like I am about lights I got interested :)
Maybe some of you experts seen already something like this! I presume it's some kind of metal-vapor bulb
like a mercury-lamp or similar but not sure about the type or power...
Body looks like to be out of ceramic so I presume it generates a lot of heat.
Wow what is this for? I’ve seen that in the big high bay industrial lights. The smaller one lights instantly to get some light going because vapor lights have to ignite and warm up to get bright. That way you can get across the room while it’s warming up.
That does have sense. Do you maybe know what input bulbs like this require?
Somehow I doubt it will work if I slam it with 240V.
I don’t really know what for is this assembly or where did it came from, seller doesn’t know either.
Looks like a HID bulb for a vehicle of some sort. It has the bulb mounted on a solenoid to move it forward and back a few millimeters for the Hi-Lo beam in a single reflector, also the small bulb on the bottom pic looks like the running DRL bulb. (the sealed plug is familiar with automotive type plugs)
Thanks for the info guys.
I did some digging last night, about metal-halide bulbs and realised I would probably throw my money on this one because finding a proper ballast would be a challenging and potentially costly task and then there’s the question of a reflector. Also, this bulbs have a set number of working hours and I have no way to know it this one is already at the end of it’s working life.
It has probably come out of a fitting that has been updated. The reason I say that is because the lamp includes the lamp holder. That white connector is a quick change plug, for quick installation, and then the wiring loom clips in and goes onto the next fitting.
The change over to led is happening very quickly and the maintenance costs/lamp life is part of the reason.
That’s because assholes from image host that I was using all of a sudden, without warning decided not to be image host anymore and delete entire content of the server, all photos, more than 1000 of them are gone, lost.
Ah I was reading the wiki link explains a lot!!! So this is the technology used at stadiums and parks and fields also explains why you get like bleed of while the light cools down
