I just ordered a Srm 763 and am kind of worried about being able to flick it open while holding the axis lock. Has anyone gotten one of these through customs? I emailed manafont asking them to tighten up the blade so it is very stiff which should solve any issues, but whether they will do it or not is a different question. Are the Srm 763 tight from the get-go?
yeah gravity knives or centrifugal force knives are illegal..if you press the axis lock button you can flick it open..which sucks..hopefully it's tight enough or they don't press the button if they take a look at it..and yeah it was 11$ and it's ordered..just don't want to get screwed..
and I agree with you about the gov't and dumb laws..you can carry fixed blades here of any length and even a sword (no joke)..but a little knife you can flick open is not allowed lol..
Benchmade's entire lineup of Axis lock knives are legal to purchase from retail outlets in Canada, why would one from Enlan or SanRenMu suddenly be a problem?
yes it's customs that is the issue..I've purchased similar knives earlier in my life from retail outlets without issue..it all comes down to customs interpretation of a flick knife and there may be a serious customs agent that sees this knife as such..all you can do after that is appeal it and 11$ is not worth it for the hassle, so this allows them to make rash decisions on items and use the grey area of what is a "flick knife"..
I bought the SRM 763 a couple weeks ago, and it came through Canadian customs just fine. Came through quicker than my last light, actually!
Edit: I find it awkward to hold and flick, actually. I can do it, but the knife isn't big enough for me to hold comfortably and flick. On the upside, I figured out that it makes a great bottle opener when closed!
I was sent a knife to review , and it was seized by customs , a Liner Lock .. It just might be bad luck - maybe some one is having a bad day - or there is a quota to be met ? I just dont know , they have opened my liner lock knives before without issue and they got through , people are strange , and open ended regulations which can be interpreted by individuals any way they want ?
In in Canada all my knives have been stopped by customs but I have still received them.
At least I think customs has checked because the yellow mailers have been opened then stapled again shut, but there is no note inside or anything.
Ive bought a Ganzo 704 (the one that wobbles), that is an axis I think, and and Spyderco Police Navy, that is one scary looking knife and customs let them all pass to me.
I ordered an Rat-1 from the States and the vendor told me he had no problems shipping to Canada but to make sure its okay he tightens the pivot before ship.
These were all recently, last month or so.
Hope that helps.
PS - Only my registered ones have been inspected at customs, regular Chinese mail just comes to me and doesnt get opened.
Id like to get a job at customs sounds like a great job, seriously.
I can open peoples mail, read letters, check out watches, flick open knives, open parcels, check invoices for under valued items, LOL.
Its fun opening or receiving parcels for me, at customs they check out new stuff all the time...Id check laptops, anything if I was at customs, Id open every box just to see whats inside, LOL.
awesome thanks man..I heard back from Jim at manafont and he's taken care of it all..tightening the pivot and marking it as a folding tool..he also said he would foil wrap it so xray wouldn't see it..don't know how true that is but whatever..should be all good..first knife i've bought online so hopefully there's no issues..
so got my 763 in today..no issues at customs..only sat there for 2 days..it's a wicked little knife..and I do mean little..wow it's so small! that's ok though because it'll just be an EDC..the el01 will be my bigger knife..
