The RS store on Sheldon Rd. just north of Ford Rd. is closing. I was in there on Sunday, May 7, 2017 and there was a decent amount of stock left. I picked up some DE World Li-ion 16340 batteries for 3 bucks a 2-pack. There was about 20 DE World SL20X Ni-Cad battery packs left. I think these are for older Streamlight incan. lights
(Edited edit) -- It looks like they are closing on May 30-- they are receiving stock from other closed stores so YMMV as to what is available.
Update -- I was in there Monday and the store is pretty much picked clean. There are a bunch of old cell phone cases and some old computer and audio cables and stuff like that left. There were a few of the DE 18350 Li-ion and a bunch of the SL-20X ni-cad batteries left. The manager said they may cut prices again on the last day.
Bummer. I picked up 2 of the DE 14500 protected batteries with a charger. I put the batteries in an Xtar VC2 with the display and let them charge. One battery charged to 4.2 volts and the other 4.15 on the charger display. I did not check the voltage with a meter.
I tried a battery in 3 different single AA lights and it is too tall to work in them. I compared the DE battery with an Xtar 14500 and it looks to be at least a few mm’s taller than the Xtar. I’ll post measurements later.
—Update— : The DE 14500 batteries are about 2.5mm taller than other AA/14500 batteries. I measured the following with a Harbor Freight plastic vernier caliper:
Eneloop NiMH white AA : 50 mm
Duracell NiMH rechargeable with black top : 50.2 mm
Xtar 14500 Li-Ion : 50.6 mm
Eagletac 14500 Li-Ion : 51.1 mm
DE 14500 Li-Ion (2 different batteries) : 53.5mm and 54.0 mm
The store is closing in 4 days. I was there looking for some coin cells yesterday and they had a countdown sign in the front window. I didn’t get a deal on the coin cells but picked up some D cells for under a buck per 2 pack with their buy one get one free deal on alkaline batteries. As of yesterday they had a good supply of AA and AAA 4 packs for about a buck. The parts drawers seem to be pretty well picked over and it looks like a lot of stuff from other stores is out on the shelves so there is a good amount of repetition. It might be worth a look if you are in the area.
