Charity and goodwill

Hi folks,

I just wanted to write a simple “thought for the day” type of post.

When you spend your hard earned cash on illuminating devices, how about giving a % of the cost, or your time to a charity as well (or instead)?

Please, no discussion here about the worthiness of specific charities as I’m sure it will end in an argument!

I only donate 10% of my eBay sales to a charity that has helped me a lot with my chronic illness in the past, and which only receives very little government funding. But that has only been possible since my situation (health & financial) recently improved, so I’d definitely not blame anyone if they kept all their money for themselves, especially with the controversy surrounding how much of people’s donations are swallowed by administrative costs (particularly with large charities).

Volunteer firefighter, I donate my time and energy.

I would suggest instead of money find a cause you stand behind and do the same. Far too often even with the best intentions money donations never fully see the cause they are meant to.
