I’m trying to find cheap eneloops for the low-current devices where low self discharge is still useful. It seems wasteful to buy the latest LSD for these applications. Has anyone found really cheap eneloops or eneloop lites?
Will consider enelongs etc. if they can deliver in terms of recharge cycles and LSD rates. I don’t need them to be high capacity.
I’ve read about a good review on Ikea AA cells, which are 2000 mAh and cheaper than Eneloop lites (4 euro for a pack of 4). But no idea how good that test was, although it did say Eneloop XX was the best quality (normal ones were not tested). The Ikea cells are probably rated for 500 charges.
How about the GP Recyko from BIC? The AA’s tested fine but the AAA’s had some variations in capacity.
Also Turnigy LSD from HobbyKing are good but you need to order quite a few to get them for a good price (shipping isn’t free)
When using them in remotes take care and not let them get fully depleted before recharging because it shortens the batterys life and capacity.
I don’t know what happened to eneloop lite’s on eBay recently, the prices of them are about double of what they used to be last year. They are about $10 for 4 which makes them about the same as full capacity eneloops when they are on sale.
I also have GP Recyko’s from BIC, they are cheap alternatives and fits your purpose.
You can also get eneloop lites from nkon.nl,
Eneloop lites have less weight, so that may be a reason to choose them.
I have tried Eneloop lites on a wall clock, and it requires more frequent recharging, now using Eneloops instead.
Thanks, everyone! fyesilova, good to know that about the lites in the wall clock. That’s exactly the kind of use I had in mind. I decided to get the cheap Contour Energy AAAs from Amazon. They cost a little more than GP but still cheaper than eneloops.
