Child's flashlight

What are some favorite’s for a child flashlight? Right now my kids are using either a Mini maglite AA LED or a Sofirn C01. Both work well but I’d like something with USB-C charging and - ideally - a single output mode around 20 lumens. Switch type doesn’t matter. LED doesn’t matter although there is a fair chance I would swap to a neutral, warm and/or high CRI just because.

Sofirn SC21 Pro has USB C charging (for LiIon only). Since it is an Anduril light, you could probably program it to be single mode at any output level you like.

I dont know of any USB C lights that will charge Eneloops…
the Olight Universal Charger (USB but not C) will charge both LiIon or Eneloop, outside the light.

If it was my kids, I would get an AA light, such as Sofirn SP10 Pro, no USB C, I would charge outside the light, and would not use LiIon. Again since the light uses Anduril, it can be programmed to be single mode if desired.

Apparently you got a Microcenter in Michigan, so get a few Rwhatever lights. 3bux a pop, sideclicky (hard mech-switch, not e-switch), single AA but runs very well offa LFP cells (flat 3.2V) or NiMH.

Drop in a 20mm TIR lens if you want, too.

I don’t know any single NiMH lights with any kind of charging let alone USB-C, you’re going to be looking at Li-ion for that which is unlikely to be restricted to 20 lumens.
The closest i can think of is a Nitecore Tube but with a built in Li-ion battery, micro-usb charging, 45 lumens, ramping UI, and a difficult to change 5mm LED, it doesn’t actually meet any of your criteria but could be a good child’s light.

There may be something in a similar vein that’s more suitable, i hope you find the right light.

Who puts out the i1R-whatever? Is that Oilight?

Small twisty, not too bright, and rechargeable.

“What are some favorite’s for a child flashlight?”
cheap, Walmart multi-pack with AAA batteries.

“…I’d like something with USB-C charging…”
we would, too. none suitable for our age group.

“…single output mode around 20 lumens.”
Harbor Freight has give-aways which handle that.

Don’t know of anything that checks all of your boxes, but I can think of 2 options:

1. Convoy T3. Fun colors. Great emitter choices. Takes AA (or 14500). With AA it doesn’t get too bright; you can limit it to 50% output through config which should only be 60 lumens or so. Turn off mode memory and don’t tell your kid how to advance modes and it’ll be a while before they figure out how to make it brighter than low. But no onboard charging.
2. Olight ir2 pro: Probably worse in every way except it does have USB-C charging (for onboard li-ion battery). High is brighter than the T3 but the low mode is only 5 lumens. I give one to my 2-year-old to play with and he doesn’t know how to turn it into high mode. Don’t pay full price, it goes on sale often.
