Michele Catalano was looking for information online about pressure cookers. Her husband, in the same time frame, was Googling backpacks. Wednesday morning, six men from a joint terrorism task force showed up at their house to see if they were terrorists. Which prompts the question: How'd the government know what they were Googling?

As if that matters. We forced another country to force the Bolivian Presidential Plane to land and be inspected. Unless you're in Venezuela or Iran, you're not out of reach, and all your internet traffic is probably being recorded too.

TL;DR version - I suggest you read it, but the short of it is, some google searches, and looking at how things are made can bring the police to your door. ( I use the term police to encompass any kind of law enforcement here.)

What I'd like to know is how exactly the feds got this information? Was there a warrant issued? What would have happened if the husband refused to allow them inside? Would that by itself be used as justification to arrest him, get a warrant, and ransack his house top to bottom.
Personally police & government scare me a whole lot more than terrorists.
Btw, all of you guys, like me, are also guaranteed to be flagged for unusual purchasing patterns - such as say switches, hosts, electronics, etc,.
About Obama, to me he is a huge letdown. He ran on a platform of hope, change, and transparency. Read through this: http://change.gov/agenda/ethics_agenda/
Then consider... once elected he has not kept to a single one of those promises. It's almost the exact opposite of what he actually did.

Yes it is. I give credit this woman where credit is due... 9/10 people, myself included (probably), would not have outed themselves in such a manner to raise the issue.

Yeah, I really wish we could have it go back the way it was, (police do real work on finding real suspects, question after getting a real reason) than have a chance of being “accidentally” beaten/rights trampled on or shot by a gang of police who snooped and saw I was Googling for a pressure cooker, some fertilizer and some nails for my home improvement, or something else ridiculous for a “reason”. All this money wasted for so little gain and so little “safety” (we will never know if it really have gotten any safer anyways), and realistically we really haven’t gotten any safer now that the risk of being killed by a police officer has gone up (more police, wider powers, more reasons to force their way into your life/home at gunpoint). I wonder how much money in JUST airport restrictions/searches/scanning etc has been wasted, and still people find they can get things past if they want…what exactly did we buy? Except for big brother over our shoulder and more risk from a different closer to home source?

Looks like you’d better not say your rice cooker cooks quinoa or couscous or you will anger your interrogator, sent due to your home improvement supply project.

Just the awareness of 9/11 itself alone almost guaranteed the same situation couldn’t ever happen again…
