Chunky Style

Hi guys,

I’m waiting on delivery of a more substantial machine than the current Mini-Lathe, so this build may take some time.

The only thing I know right now is that it will have 18 neutral-tint XP-Gs driven at full-tilt.

Almost all of the parts have landed, but this is the most impressive to me:

That’s a near-20lb chunk of CU110 copper, ready to be made into a heatsink for this project.

- Stay tuned for updates -

Wow, looking forward to seeing this. :D

18 XPGs driven at full tilt.. 45A. Yikes. :D

good luck with the project!

Rocks!! :steve:

So it’s gonna be like the xm18 or whatever that one 4sevens light is called? Looks pretty cool to me already.

Great! Can't wait to see it! What's the host going to be? (You must have been busy as I haven't seen much out of you lately on the forum.)

2.5 amps each? That seems a bit excessive. If you're going to drive them that hard why not use XM-Ls.

He said "at full tilt".. that might be even more in DD with good cells. Reason might be that XPGs cost only half of XMLs. :)

Holy cow! I can see why you’d need more than a mini-lathe to work on that  Why not just machine some fins in that hunk of Cu, stick the LEDs on the top and call it a day?

Here are some pics of the copper I am working with………………

A few steps away……………

an now the reveal……………….

Never said I was going to build a flashlight with it!

WOW!!! 6 neutral XP-G triple emitter stars, huh? That is going to be some photon cannon!!!

Right you are, sir.

@dchomak: That was a pretty sneaky ‘reveal.’

dchomak: That second picture of yours had me thinking: Strip Dancing Pole in you backyard? Great idea! LOL

Chicago X so what is the final product going to look like? Or are you going to add some suspense in the style of the Shadow?

Why not 18 XML?

FiveMega host, with a few mods.

Why bother? A single Bridgelux array will get you over 15,000 lumens without all that tedious mucking about in wiring/mounting space….

Which one? Is it an elephant or what?

So is that who you are working for? Do you have a link?
